There are some serious ups and downs when it comes to student life. For starters, you’re probably broker than broke. Plus, you’re constantly scurrying from one assignment to the next, and to make some extra dosh you’re working any number of odd jobs from mowing the lawn to yapping away at a call centre.

But on the flipside, there’s a number (a small number) of perks to being a student too. You can’t go wrong with concession prices for trains and movie tickets. And if you’re a student of the uni variety, there are few things in the world better than starting your day with a midday lecture and being able to go home straight after.

To add to this, Westpac have announced another reason why being a student is a pretty sweet deal.

Get $50 for opening a new bank account online

Westpac wanna give students a little leg up by offering $50 cash when you open up a new Westpac Choice account. This deal is open to all students or anyone under the age of 21 who have never had one of these accounts before. All you gotta do is open a Westpac Choice transaction account before 9 October 2019, make 5 eligible purchases and deposit $500 within 30 days of opening the account.

The account itself comes with some pretty schmick benefits, like access to Google Pay, cardless cash and a mobile banking app that’s streets ahead of the rest when it comes to convenience and functionality. Plus, as a student you won’t have to pay the monthly account fee and you’ll score a 12-month International Student Discount Card (which would normally set you back $30) that’ll give you discounts in Oz and across the world for things like cheap meals and accommodation.

Westpac are on it ‘cause they know the struggles of being a student. They’re trying to make it as easy as possible for you to enjoy the finer things in life, like going on an actual date instead of hitting up Maccas every week. They know that $50 goes a long way when you’re a student (think of how many packets of mi goreng you could afford) and they’re willing to give it to ya just for spending your money on things you would have bought anyway.

Suss out the Westpac Choice account page to get started on opening your account.
