Pour yourself a glass of champagne dear reader, the Abbott government has failed in its bid to deregulate university fees.
That’s right, you don’t need to sweat about the sky-high debt you were going to pay off for the rest of your life. You’re free! Free to study and enjoy life!
It appears Tony Abbott couldn’t convince key cross bench senators who announced they will not support the Coalition’s proposed higher education changes. The government had wanted to allow universities to set their own fees, cut course funding by an average 20 per cent and extend federal funding to private colleges, TAFES and sub-bachelor degrees – the biggest changes to Australian higher education since the introduction of HECS 25 years ago.
So, what better way to celebrate the idea of having a newfound budget? How about a list of other things you can now spend your cash on:
“Travel is the only thing you can buy, that makes you richer”
For some, finishing school means one thing – a chance to finally get out and explore the world. Temples and tuk tuks and tacos await you; new friends, new lovers, new homes to make.
“You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
That was Dr Seuss, and he was a smart dude. So listen.
Whether it be travel for leisure, travel for study or even travel for sport. We got your back.
There’s a whole world of music, drama, art and god knows what waiting to be explored. Live music from Denmark, graffiti artists from Japan, Samba from Columbia and expressionist from Tanzania are just the tip of the iceberg. Open your mind and let the real world educate your understanding of life.
Don’t worry too much about having to wander down the back alley of that dodgey block of apartments to find the hidden gems. We’ve already done the wandering for you.
One of life’s most rewarding pleasures is finding a new thing to be passionate about. Why not put the magazine down and pick up a guitar? How about scuba diving and exploring the Great Barrier Reef? Ever dreamt of hang-gliding? Poetry perhaps?
If there’s one thing you can’t have too much of, it’s skills.
That car you’ve had your eye on is about to become a whole lot more affordable. Don’t worry too much about spending that “little bit extra” as now you don’t have that insane debt figure in the back of your head.
That makes sense… right?
Whatever you want to do, spend it or save it, it’s important you’re savvy about it. We’ve done the hard work for you so poke your head over here to find out a little more on how to manage those new found funds a little easier.
I never thought I’d say this, but, thanks Tony!nullnull
