Course Overview

Are you interested in numbers? Do you want to work in the financial services sector? Then the Diploma of Applied Commerce is for you.

The Diploma of Applied Commerce is a one year full-time (or part-time equivalent) course providing an introduction to the finance industry. The course has been developed in consultation with accounting and financial planning industry input, so you’ll develop all the knowledge you need for a job you’ll love.

Subjects focus on accounting and financial planning fundamentals, marketing and management, economics, statistics and finance and investment. An academic foundations subject is also included to support you in your learning and to help you develop academic writing and study skills.

On completion of the Diploma of Applied Commerce, you can choose to either enter the workforce in entry level finance roles, or continue your studies in the Bachelor of Applied Commerce majoring in accounting or financial planning. You will get one full year of credit if you continue your studies in the Bachelor.

Entry Requirements

You must satisfy at least one of the following four entry requirements to be eligible for admission into this course:

  • NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent
  • Recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate
  • Certificate IV level or higher vocational qualification
  • Completion of at least one year full-time study or equivalent in a degree course at a higher education institution

Please note:

  • You do not require an ATAR for entry into this course.
  • If you do not meet any of the four minimum entry requirements, you may be able to apply for entry under special admissions provisions including mature age or disadvantage.
  • You may be invited to a pre-admission interview to determine your suitability for the course. The interview may include a short literacy and numeracy assessment.
