What will I learn?

This obviously really depends on the industry you enter.

Apprenticeships – You will learn all the skills necessary to come out as a fully qualified tradesman

How long will it last and what is the wage?

Apprenticeships – These will be consist of 3-4 years for ‘traditional trades’ such as carpentry, plumbing etc.

Who can become an apprentice?

Anyone who is of working age can commence and apprenticeship. This can be a school-leaver, re-entering the workforce or an adult worker simply wishing to change careers. You do not need to have the Higher School Certificate nor other qualification.

When you can start depends on the state in which you live:

ACT: No age limit set – however under the age of 15 you cannot work between 10pm and 6am

NSW: No age set

Northern Territory: No age limit set – however under the age of 15 you cannot work between 10pm and 6am

QLD: If you’re 15 or older you can start work

South Australia: There’s no age set for when you can start work. But there are limits on the type of work you can do.

Tasmania: There’s no age set for when you can start work. But there are limits on the type of work you can do.

Victoria: If you’re 15 or older you can start work

An adult traineeship is someone who commences a traineeship at 21 years or old.

If you wish to work during school times, you must be of the minimum school leaving age
