When it comes to being an adult and handling things like taxes, moving out and saving money, school sometimes missed the mark. There’s nothing in the curriculum about superannuation or how the heck you’re supposed to afford a new car, and when it comes time to actually deal with that stuff, sometimes we are left flying blind and making plenty of mistakes along the way.

Well, we reckon it’s about time for this to change, and that’s why Year13 and Westpac teamed up to create FinLit, a financial literacy program that can help with lots of stuff you need to know in regards to money. From making budgets to spending money while you’re travelling, moving out of home and buying big things like a car or a house, FinLit has the answers which could help.

Not only that, but if you log in and complete the FinLit modules (which won’t take you long and will ensure you’ve got the money basics down pat), you’ll be able to claim that you’re officially financially lit(erate). Oh, and you’ll go in the draw for a chance to win $2,000.

Win $2,000 thanks to our mates at Westpac

Year13 and Westpac know that it’s a real struggle trying to work out all this money stuff on your own, and a little cash boost can go a long way when you’re trying to save for your gap year or pay for your uni textbooks (or just the copious amounts of coffee and Maccas that are getting you through day-to-day life). That’s why we want to give one lucky person who completes the FinLit program a reward – $2,000 directly deposited into their bank account.

It’s pretty simple to enter too; head over to the Year13 Money site and log in to start the FinLit program. There’s six modules in the program with a short quiz at the end of each one to make sure you’re actually learning something and not just skimming over the facts (like we know ya do in class). Pass all the quizzes and you’re automatically in the draw to win the big $2k.

There’s a few little niggly bits we have to iron out first though – you need to be 15 or older to enter (and have the permission of your parents if you’re under 18), and you need to be a resident of Australia. You can complete the FinLit program at your own pace, but you’ve gotta make sure you complete all the modules by the 30th June 2018 to be in the running.

Keen for a shot at the $2,000? Jump on over to Year13 Money and log in to start FinLit. Hope we can teach you a little more about money than school did. 😉
