Overview
  • If you don't have enough dosh to sustain a whopper of a trip but you still wanna go overseas, why not work whilst you travel?? 🌎✈️
  • New Zealand, Canada and The UK are the easiest destinations to live and work!! ✨

Pretty much everyone wants to travel overseas now that we're allowed to! And while a soiree around Europe or a little adventure in Asia is always fun, living and working in another country is becoming a really popular option. ✈️

This is partly because it’s a good way to make money while you’re on the road and partly because settling down somewhere for a couple of months (or even a couple of years) provides a broader cultural understanding of the country you’re in. It’s a real good option if you don’t really have the cash to go travelling for months and months but you really want to see the world.

So you're ready to get out there, experience a new country and make some money while you’re doing it. Where should you go? Well, here are the easiest options if you have an Australian passport and you’re under 30. 😉

1. New Zealand

NZ is by far the easiest option for an Aussie who’s looking to work overseas. You can literally rock up without a visa and start working, just as you would in Australia. Maybe you want to head over and work at a ski resort in Queenstown, work at a bar in Wellington or become a kiwi-fruit picker at an orchard near Taupo. NZ is also slightly cheaper than Australia and culturally, very similar, so the change isn’t too straining. Here’ some more info on what life’s like on the other side of the ditch.

2. Canada

To live and work in Canada, you can apply for the International Experience Canada work permit. There are a few subcategories to this work permit, but the Working Holiday visa is probably the simplest and most relevant one. It allows you to live and work in Canada for up to two years, working multiple jobs in multiple locations. You might want to scope out the live music scene in Vancouver, shred the gnar in Whistler or practice your French in Montreal.

3. The UK

To work and live in the UK, you’ll want to apply for the Youth Mobility Scheme visa (tier 5), which allows you to stay for up to two years. One of the best features of this visa is that you can leave and come back at any time during your stay. This makes it easy to go and see other parts of Europe when you’ve got some time off work or you’re in between jobs. London has long been a favourite for young Aussies who are keen to soak up the big city’s culture and cobblestones. It costs about $410 (£235) to apply for the visa, plus you need to prove that you’ve got more than $3300 (£1890) in savings.
