Think you know all there is to know about the mining industry in Australia? Think again.
-
We've teamed up with the Australian Minerals and Energy Skills Alliance to show you what you might be missing about the resource sector.
Having had a bit of a bad rep in the past, it’s becoming more and more apparent that Australia's single largest sector is a massive contributor to high-wage jobs, exports - and even sustainability.
That, even after endless lockdowns and the shutting down of international travel, it is the industry that can offer stability and unmatched resilience in the face of uncertainty.
Let’s dig deep and find out the lesser known facts about the Aussie mining industry!
We need mining for a sustainable future
Yep. Obviously Australia produces familiar minerals like iron ore, gold and zinc - which is pretty cool - but the best part? Mining will also support an eco-friendly future.
I bet you didn’t think mining would help our environment - but the truth is, we really need it to support a sustainable future. Through sustainable power, renewable energy, electric vehicles, advanced engineering, and even commercial space travel, mining is becoming an increasingly important industry.
The mining industry workforce is made up of almost double the national average in Aborinigal and Torres Strait Islander employees (around 3.7%)
The mining boom has created a heap of new jobs for indigenous communities over the last decade. Not only that, but The Mining Council Australia is keen on equality too - creating a partnership with the ‘Stars Foundation’ to empower young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women in Australian mining. How good?
A Lot of Australia is Still Unexplored
Australia is seriously big. Like, it can fit the UK into it 32 times big. We’ll just let that sink in. Unsurprisingly, our colossal country is pretty underexplored for mineral resources. Which means we’ll need more people to keep exploring - if you fancy jetting round Australia to help out?
