So it’s not looking great. You’ve got your results back and your ATAR isn’t quite what you were hoping for. In fact, you worked yourself into the ground and things reaaally didn’t go your way. And that sucks. But don’t throw in the towel just yet, cause there’s still heaps of pathway courses you can do to crack into the uni scene. Western Sydney University’s The College has 27 (yes, 27) diploma-to-bachelor courses you can undertake that, on completion, will land you right in second year uni. Even if you didn’t get an ATAR at all. So whether it’s a business, science, engineering, or another degree you are interested in, chances are they have a pathway option to get you exactly where you want to be.

1. Diploma in Business/Bachelor of Business

The perfect degree for all those people who see themselves owning/running/ruling their own business one day. Or maybe you just want to slay in the corporate world. You’ll learn about the legal and economic side of business as well as how to lead a team successfully and create a sustainable and ethical business.

2. Diploma in Communication/Bachelor of Screen Media

Screens pretty much run the world now, so learning how to create something that can be viewed on a screen is a pretty clever idea. Whether you prefer digital journalism, film, sound technology or web design, this degree can be fine-tuned to fit exactly what you want it to be. You’ll finish the degree with a portfolio of work that will reflect your understanding and skills and help you catapult your way into the industry. Can’t complain about that.

3. Diploma in Construction Management/Bachelor of Construction Technology

If you’re keen to manage construction sites and survey buildings and properties, this degree will give you the theoretical and practical knowledge and experience to take on the residential construction industry. You’ll study the legal, economic, technological and management sides of the industry, plus there’s also heaps of opportunities to take on cadetships in areas such as project home building. You’ll come out the other end a building expert!

4. Diploma in Social Science (Policing)/Bachelor of Policing

This degree is a lot broader than it seems. Sure it can put you on the path to becoming a police officer, but it can open so many doors to the wide world of criminal justice. With the knowledge you gain in criminology and social science you could become a border protection agent, welfare professional, or even an intelligence officer. That’s pretty much a spy. Western Sydney Uni is pretty much spy school. But you didn’t hear that from us.

5. Diploma in Science/Bachelor of Natural Science

If you just can’t get enough of animals and want to understand and protect them (but also look at how cute they are all the time) this degree is definitely for you! You’ll learn about animal behaviour and welfare plus all about human-animal interactions. There are heaps of majors to choose from, such as zoology and conservation biology, so you can tailor your degree just the way you like it. Plus, there’s heaps of hands on experience both on and off campus at zoos, farms and wildlife parks. Best degree ever.

WSU The College’s pathway diploma courses aim to prep you for a bachelor degree. Their smaller and more intimate class sizes will provide the perfect environment to ensure you understand all of the content, plus you’ll learn how to study at a university level and the secrets to university success. With an ATAR of 55 you can complete your diploma in three terms over 12 months. And once you nail that, you’ll head straight into second year uni, no time lost at all. If you were not eligible for an ATAR, your diploma will take a little longer, but you’ll still be ready for second year after just 16 months–barely any extra time at all.

Plussssss, there’s so many more degrees to choose from (and these are just some). Check it:

  • Diploma in Arts/Bachelor of Arts
  • Diploma in Building Design Management/Bachelor of Building Design Management
  • Diploma in Communication/Bachelor of Communication OR Bachelor of Creative Industries
  • Diploma in Design/Bachelor of Design OR Bachelor of Graphic Design
  • Diploma in Engineering/Bachelor of Engineering
  • Diploma in Health Science/Bachelor of Health Science
  • Diploma in ICT/Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology
  • Diploma in Criminal and Community Justice/Bachelor of Criminal and Community Justice

We could go on but you probably get it, there’s a truckload of courses. Basically, all we’re trying to say is that you shouldn’t let one little number get in the way of your uni goals, and there are so many degrees that you’re still eligible for. So go on. Get it done. Suss out some more info here.
