5 Ways To Make The Most Of StuVac
Overview
- StuVac can be a pretty daunting week.
- There's all this study to do but everything is telling you you should take the week as a rest week.
- Here are 5 ways that can help you make the most of the week:
Finding a balance between studying and resting while on StuVac is one of the hardest parts of the semester. Firstly you're probably feeling exhausted from classes and other assessments, so all you feel like doing is taking the week as a break.
On the other it can be overwhelming making sure you get the things you need to done.
We've put together our top 5 things to do during StuVac to make sure you make the most of the time off.
1. Make a plan
To get the best balance of rest and study we suggest you plan 3 days of study and 2 days of rest. How you mix that up is up to you. You could put all three of those days together and have a 4 day weekend, or you could have one day of rest in between each day of working.
With a realistic plan that lets you rest but also has a reasonable amount of time to get what you need to do you can really help yourself get ahead and be ready for your assessments.
2. Set some goals
Setting goals is a really helpful exercise to have everyday, but for a period of time where you are free from going to classes and have a bit of extra time yourself, knowing what you want to get out of that time can help keep you motivated to work hard.
If goals are for you, a to do list will work just as well!
It will save you some time when you sit down to study because you’ve got your plan and list of goals and to do list all ready to go.
3. Plan something fun
Having some fun during StuVac is one of the best ways to stay sane. Realistically you aren’t going to want to, or probably be able to study that whole week.
Doing something fun is your reward for working hard on the days you are working. You can plan a day full of your fav things, like a sleep in, some drinks with your friends or a day out at the beach.
4. Find the perfect study space
Often by the end of a semester I find the desk in my room is the WORST place to study. There are so many distractions that more often than not I find myself rolling into bed and waking up at 6pm having missed the entire day.
So for StuVac the best thing for me is to find a new study spot.
Now this doesn’t have to be anything special, you could just go find a hidden study space at uni or you could reclaim the dining room table for yourself. I love a park or a cafe if it's a nice day.
Basically I use the new space as a way to stop myself from getting into my normal habits. And a more public place always helps me remember to look like I’m busy at work!
5. Meal plan
The little rewards in between studying are some of my last resorts when trying to stay motivated.
But it can be easy to let yourself have a snack or a drink break every 15 seconds if you don’t plan it out.
That’s why you need a meal plan!
Plan out a break between every 1-2 hours or so for 5-10 minutes. And in the break you can plan to get yourself a coffee, or a tea, or even a square of chocolate. That way every time you sit back down to study you know you only have to work for that allotted amount of time and then you can have a break.
StuVac is the perfect time to sort out your study routine. It’s a time to get a bit more rest, but also make sure you use your time wisely and get ahead with your studies.
Remember if you’re feeling the motivation train is starting to slip away from you, you can always take a little break by going for a walk outside, or go play with your pet for a little bit.
Good luck and happy studying!
