Here Are 5 Things You’ll Hear On ATAR Day
It wouldn't matter if you fell off the face of the planet after the HSC, completely off the grid and an enigma to all, you'll still be bombarded with messages on ATAR day.
Your mates and fam members will all want to know how you went and you'll notice a string of similar questions and statements. Don't worry, we've got you covered with five things you'll definitely hear on ATAR day.
1. "How'd you go? Screenshot your results"
Well duh. You'll be bombarded with the same ol' question. You can either share your ATAR flat out or just reply with a nonchalant "not bad good size". I actually loved giving a dry reply, especially to all the nosey people in my grade that would get an adrenaline rush from comparing their ATAR to everyone elses. And nah, not screenshotting my results.
2. "Congratulations!"
Then comes the congratulations! Whether you absolutely smashed it or feel like you flopped, this is a day for celebration.
The biggest thing that pesky number proves is that you finished thirteen whole years of high school! That is a huuuuge achievement! So, again, congratulations!!!
3. "It's just a number... but also did you get any Band 6's?"
A-freakin'-men people! You'll hear; "it's just a number" through the grapevine whether it's directed to you or not.
To be completely honest, ATAR day can be a real neg out if you didn't get the score you were hoping for and it's easy to feel inadequate and embarrassed. That's why, if you're stoked with your ATAR, let your mates who aren't so stoked know that, it is in fact, just a number!!
No one will be talking about the ATAR in a week or two, I mean, I've completely forgotten what mine was. So for the people in the back row who didn't hear me, it's just a number! But also, chances are you'll also cop the add on on whether you got any Band 6's... it's bound to happen.
4. "Did you get into the course you wanted?"
Agh, this is where reality strikes for the ATAR receivers who are looking to continue their studies. This is the moment we've all been waiting for... Will we get into our dream course or desired university??...
5. "So what's next?"
I remember all the older fam members bombarding me with this question. I mean, loaded question Grandma, jeez!
People will be wanting to creep into your inner psyche on ATAR day and try to figure out your hopes, aspirations and ambitions for the future. Personally, I became a zonked space cadet when asked this q as I had absolutely no idea.
If you are a bit like me, dw, Year13 is here for you with our fresh and funky Post-School Plan! It's essentially a quiz with q's that’ll dig deep into your talents, values, interests and personality. It'll be a helping hand to figure out what career path you'd suit, what qualifications or experience you’d need and what skillset you’d want to have! It would have definitely saved me years of scratching my head when trying to narrow down my options! So suss it out here!
