Bunnings Jobs: Why Bunnings Is The Best Job For Teenagers
Overview
- Thinking about getting your first job? Here’s my experience working at Bunnings - the world's greatest hardware store (imo).
Last year I got my very first job at Bunnings, the iconic Australian hardware store, and honestly I can’t recommend it enough. Through my Bunnings job, I not only made a bunch of mates but also earned some pretty decent cash.
Here’s why Bunnings is the best job for teenagers:
The People
The first thing that I loved about working at Bunnings was the people. I’d heard some horror stories from friends about other retail workplaces, but I can honestly say that Bunnings actually care about their employees.
All of my co-workers were so friendly and helpful, and they made working there really fun. Even though it could be really busy at times, everyone was always happy and willing to lend a hand.
The Discounts On All The Good Stuff
One of the perks of scoring a Bunnings job is that you'll get a discount card that comes in very handy when you need to buy a gift for your parents/grandparents etc. I was able to snag a bargain on some power tools for my dad and some solar lights for my grandma too. As an added bonus, you also get a discount at Kmart, Officeworks and Target.
The Opportunities
Another thing that I loved about working at Bunnings was how much responsibility they gave me. Even though I was only 16, they trusted me to do things like operating the registers, restocking shelves, and helping customers find what they were looking for. It felt great to be given that level of responsibility (especially since I had no prior experience).
The Life Skills
My Bunnings job also taught me heaps of transferable skills that I’ll be able to use throughout my life. Things like time management, teamwork, customer service and communication are all essential skills that will help you land a job later on.
The Variety
If you’re like me and you need a bit of variety in your life, then a Bunnings job might be the perfect fit. Over the time I worked there, I was able to try several different departments (my favourites would be Paint or the Tool Shop!), which was great for keeping things interesting. It also meant I got to meet a lot of people, from tradies to cute old people who needed help with their veggie garden.
The Snags
Last but definitely not least are the Bunnings snags. I definitely ate my fair share of these whenever I had a weekend shift. Plus, it’s for charity so I didn’t feel as guilty!
So Go Get A Bunnings Job
Overall, I had an incredible experience with my Bunnings job. If you're ever thinking about applying for a job there, definitely go for it! You won't regret it.
