Can I Still Have A Gap Year?
Overview
- Things are opening up again, but tbh there’s still a whole lot of uncertainty around building your dream gap year.
- Thankfully, there are some sick options out there if you’re looking to make some memories and earn some cash at the same time!
About to do a massive knock on wood here, but as things are, it’s looking a lot better in Aus when it comes to being able to go further than the local shops for a well-deserved break. And while international travel looks set to get going in a matter of weeks, there’s definitely a couple of hitches when it comes to actually booking those flights for your post-high-school trip.
First of all, while we’re pretty lucky to have a path forward here in Aus, things aren’t necessarily so sunny overseas. Some of those classic travel options for backpacking on the cheap might just not be worth the risk, which is a huge drag tbh.
On the other hand, I don’t know about you guys but my savings have taken a huge hit over the locky-d. Between loads of casual jobs having their hours cut down and, if we’re being honest, a couple of budget blow-outs on takeout and those hobbies gathering dust in the shed, while our borders might be opening up, my wallet is locked shut for the foreseeable future.
So this all begs the question - if you’re not super stoked about risking it overseas, and you’re trying to travel with a minimal impact on your bank account, what are you supposed to line up for your gap year?
Thankfully, our mates at Growcom have gotten in touch with us with a solution to all your worries. They’re offering school leavers a pretty epic opportunity to see some of the best parts of Queensland, make mates and memories to last a lifetime, and get paid all at the same time?
So how does it all work? Basically, Growcom is there to set you up with paid placements with ethical agricultural employers all across Queensland. Once you sign up they’ll hook you up with free training and a license to work for 12 months.
From there, you can take a look at their huge network of agricultural businesses all up and down QLD to build out your epic journey. Fancy something near the Sunshine Coast? Or do you want to go off the beaten track and see what Far Northern Queensland has to offer? It’s your trip to build!
The great thing about Growcom’s GAP Year program is that they’ll be there with you every step of the way, so you can take all the guesswork out of building your adventure the way you want it.
Any way you spin it, it’s a bit of a weird time to be planning a gap year - but checking out the GAP Year program is a sure-fire way to take the stress out of planning the next step in your post-school journey. Make sure you take a look at the full details over here.
