When You Feel Like You Haven't Done Enough In Your Teen Years
Sneak out of home, get drunk, get your license, spend every second with friends, ask someone out, go to parties, all-nighters, crappy jobs, make-out sessions… Be reckless, mischievous and daring. Experiment, dream and try everything. These are the best years of your life so you better not waste them… At least, that’s what we’re told.
What happens if you haven’t done anything you’re supposed to. If you watch movies, scroll down social media feeds and are constantly surrounded by people living how you think you should be living, consequently feeling inadequate. If you feel poor in experiences and feel as if you're wasting your youth.
What happens if you get to uni and you haven’t even kissed someone before? What happens when you leave high school and you’ve never drunk a sip of alcohol? What happens if you spent most of your teen years reading books rather than going to parties?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Look, I know how gutted you can become when you realise your teenage years haven't panned out like you thought they would. The thing we all seem to forget is, most of our lives don't peak in high school. And thank GOD for that because my teenage years were a whirlwind of drama, puberty, wack hormones and feeling dazed, confused and overwhelmed most of the time.
Here's the thing. You're still young! It isn't too late to send it! If you feel like you're lacking something, go for it! Ask your crush out, apply for a new job, join a club or take some guitar lessons. Go to the beach, take photos, host movie marathons, read good books... Whatever makes you happy is more important than going with the crowd of people that seem to be doing it all.
Remember that you have a tonne of time to send it even further than the box high school puts you in. You can save your mulla to go traveling, move out of home, go to uni or whatever else floats your boat. Oh and, most people enjoy their 20's waaaay more than their teenage years (myself included).
Live how you want, not how you're supposed to. In the long run, you won't really regret not going to parties, getting drunk or kissing your crush, but you will regret not being yourself and doing what makes you happy.
