We Should All Be Dopamine Dressing - Here's How
Overview
- We're obssessed with dopamine dressing - we're talkin' fave colours, cool retro vibes and out-there wackiness just for the fun of it. Here are some ways to dopamine dress rn 🌈
Who'd have thought that choice of colour, style or texture of clothing can have an impact on how you're feelin'?
Studies have shown that clothes have the magical ability to boost your mood and can trigger memories. When I think about it, I'm partial to rich teal corduroy overalls, or an orange and brown retro mini dress transporting me back to the 60's. 🤩
Why? 'Cause it makes me feel good. Cute. Happy. Child-like. Powerful. Here are some prime examples of how to get that dopamine hit, baby.✨
Colour me happy
I used to be all about the greys, navys and whites. But you'll find zero grey in my closet now. I found the confidence to start wearing c o l o u r - and boy does it feel good. 🌈
Find clothes that bring you genuine happiness when you wear them. For me it's oranges and pastels. Daisies. Doc martens. Flares. Weird combos.
Bright and garish pink blazer? Heck yeah. Cool and collected monochrome ensemble? Absolutely. Crazy animal print tights? I mean, sure. All the colours of the rainbow.
Why not? Trigger that dopamine release, folks.
Step outta your comfort zone
"Step outside your usual gear. The novelty can enhance mood, lower stress and help you see things in a different light."
- Elizabeth Lombardo
I don't know about you, but whenever I buy the thing I told myself I'd look silly in, or would stand out too much in, I always feel a rush. A satisfaction.
Once I've eventually mustered up the balls to buy/put the thing on, it feels great. Like, really great.
Buy that beret. Wear the thing you thought was too edgy for you - or too anything for you. Wear whatever actually makes you smile and feel good. If that's all black then go for it!
Arm candy
Don't underestimate the power of a bloody good bag. A reisin clutch. A green leather backpack. A rattan handbag.
In fact, any accessory for that matter. Statement earrings, insane shoes, a funky design or even a fluffy bag for god's sake. The world we live in has limitless options. Go nuts. Make your own darn day.
Feel yo'self
Next time you're trying something on in the mirror, tell yourself how bloody cute you look. Feel your bad self.
Curves, no curves, slim, tall, short, chunky - every single body is worth celebrating. And it makes it even easier once you do it on the reg, with your fave cute clothes on.
So go forth and choose colours, patterns, co-ords and pretty much anything that makes you smile. You're worth it ✨
