There are so many things you can do throughout your career and even though school might have told you otherwise, you are not locked in with one job for your whole life.

Aim higher and you can achieve some massive things, just like the red hot speakers joining us at the Year13 Expo this year! What better way to convince you that you can follow your dreams, no matter how big, by highlighting what they’ve done throughout their careers? And they’ve done heaps!

The Inspired Unemployed

From meeting in their younger years of high school, to the wild days of festivals, from living in another country and not finding work (totally living up to their name), these guys have done everything exciting and spontaneous in their early 20’s.

Being a plasterer and carpenter, they wanted to jazz up their life and absolutely sent it with travelling to Europe, which began the inspiration for the crazy and hilarious duo that they are today.

 

What the boys have done:

  • Kept everyone sane during lockdown (forever grateful)
  • These blokes have amassed 1 million followers as of March 2021 (absolutely killin’ it!)
  • They have starred on a cover of GQ
  • Modelled for Fendi and Louis Vuitton (big fricken names here)
  • Featured in a four-page spread in Vogue Australia

Dr Karl

This bloke has done some amazing work in his many different fields, with the start of his career beginning at graduating university at 19 - what a hardworking madman! But if you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life, and that’s exactly how Dr Karl approached it. 

 

What the Aussie icon has done:

  • Pulled off all the funkiest, colourful shirts everyone dreams of
  • Won the Nobel Prize in 2002 for his ground-breaking research into belly button lint and why the colour is always blue
  • Was awarded Australian Father of the Year in 2003 - bless!
  • Received the Member of the Order of Australia Award in 2006 (the AM in his title)
  • Has written 47 books all to do with the curiosities around science, and with no sight of stopping!

Laura Enever

Laura Enever is the epitome of female empowerment and has never stopped mapping out her journey and career path. She has been doing some amazing things on the elite sports front, going against the grain and ultimately, following her dream of surfing.

 

What she has been up to:

  • 2x World Junior Champion (craaaaazzzzyyyy stuff!)
  • Hurley Australian Open Champion in 2015
  • Was the star in ‘Undone’, documentary based on her journey in the world of big-wave surfing
  • Has taken her journey international and competed in some of the most competitive surfing comps in the world
  • Worked with massive brands such as Billabong, Louis Vuitton and Stance

Steph Claire Smith

This gal is the epitome of being a girl-boss and making moves! Fitness model, influencer and entrepreneur Steph Claire Smith has shared her life and journey on social media with her 1.5 million followers (freaking insane) and has just given birth to a baby boy! She really does do it all. Steph loves all things fitness and health + is all about following your passions and a career through unconventional pathways.

 

Here’s what she has done (so far):

  • Co-founds sunshade brand Soda Shades
  • Became the face of self-tanning brand Bondi Sands
  • Co-founder of Keep It Cleaner - one of the biggest fitness and wellness programs in Australia and worldwide (their products are also in supermarkets!)
  • Collaborated with massive brands such as Rebel Sport (she loves Adidas), Clinique, The Iconic and Bras n Things
  • Has made a massive impact in the fitness industry, helping thousands of people in regard to wellness, diet culture and their overall health

Will Hodgett

Aside from being one of the coolest dudes we know and travelling the globe as a job (we’re so envious), Will has really flexed his creative skills to fit within his lifestyle, and in doing so, has curated some sensational videography work with elite athletes and top global brands.

  • Started his career at GoPro and was there for 6 years
  • Climbed the ranks and became the Creative Director of Europe, Middle East & Africa
  • Led massive projects and campaigns with GoPro all over the world (also filmed, directed and edited by the man himself)
  • Done some incredible work in bringing light to the wild-life and poaching of elephants in Kenya
  • Filmmaking and producing inspirational content for extreme sports (think motorsports, snowboarding, hikes, skateboarding, skiing and the obvious one, surfing)
