The 4 Excuses That Keep You From Traveling
I was going to...I want to...but…
1. I don’t have the money to travel 💸
I love this one. I love meeting people, telling them about where I’ve been and what I’ve seen, and their response that they wish they could do that. They wish they could be me. And always, when I ask why they don’t, they tell me it’s the money. I’m all for keeping track of your finances, and in the material world we live in now, items and bills pile up. But Chris Gouillebeau backpacked through every single country in the world before he was thirty-three on $100 a week. So there’s that.
2. The rest of the world is dangerous 🥵
Boy, do I feel this one. I was afraid of everything when I was growing up. Going out in my own neighborhood for a run without my cell phone was dangerous. It wasn’t, but I let other people lead me to believe so. The rest of the world isn’t dangerous, it’s just unknown. I’ve known more people who’ve traveled solo and written their tales of meeting the locals, being welcomed into the culture, and never feeling afraid.
3. I like staying home 🏠
So, you like the comfort of the known. Don’t we all. But if you live and die never leaving the same street, you’ll never be a different person. I want you to discover who you really are outside your bubble of home. I want this for you.
4. I’ll do it later ✈️
When you’re retired. The key word in there is ‘tired.’ You want to backpack with your life on your shoulders through mountains and endure tight plane rides when your body is going to be screaming at you for a nap or your pain killers? What I want for you is to stop pushing your dreams back. Stop putting yourself on hold. What are you really waiting for, because the right moment is yesterday.
Be remarkable, but be it today. The job will be there when you get back. The future is still coming, Take a deep breath and go watch the sunrise from the balcony of a foreign place, beside a stranger. You might surprise yourself. You might even like it.
