How To Throw Together Last Minute Schoolies Plans
Overview
- It is almost that time of year where almost everyone in year 12 heads off for a week to celebrate finishing school. But for some of us, the plans everyone made over a year ago were just not on our radar.
- But, now that you’ve realised you definitely need that holiday, you’ve got some last minute schoolies plans to throw together!
1. Where (BOOK THIS INSTANT)
Firstly and possibly the most important thing you need to work out is where you’re going. Unfortunately last minute booking does limit your options. But don’t worry there are still options.
Here are the questions you need to ask yourself: Do you want to go interstate? Do you want to be somewhere near a beach? Do you want to stay close to home?
With your answers to these questions it's now time to either book somewhere to stay, or find a family friend's place, or book that camp site.
2. Who
Who you go with is a very important part of planning a schoolies trip. Advice from those of us who have already gone on schoolies includes making sure you go with a group of friends, or a friend who you can spend an entire week or weekend with.
When you are staying with someone else there really is no space for your own, so if there is someone that easily annoys you, or you may have had a few words with, maybe don’t go with them.
Doesn’t mean you won't see them, but spending 24/7 with a person is very different to just seeing them at school.
3. When
Do you want to go for a week? A weekend? Figuring out how long you want to go for will also help decide where you want to go.
If it's a weekend, you probably want to spend less time travelling and so you can get the entire weekend to relax.
If it's a week you can afford to spend more time travelling.
4. Activities
Depending on the amount of time you’re going away, you want to have a relative amount of activities.
By planning what days you want to entirely relax, and what days you might want to go out for dinner or go out for an activity (hiking, paddle boarding, or a board game night) will take a heap of the stress and time wasting while you’re away.
Holidays can be wasted away just by indecisiveness. If you make some of these decisions before you go, there is less worry about what you’re doing for the day and potentially less arguments about what to do with the day.
5. Cost
Schoolies can be pricey with all the travel costs, accomodation, food and drinks and other things.
On average those of us who have already gone spent about $700 in total.
Those with pricier schoolies had flight and accommodation costs which were expensive.
If you are looking for a cheaper schoolies, a campsite is always going to be a bit more affordable and you wouldn’t be losing any of the fun of staying with people.
Don’t get too caught up in making schoolies perfect. There will be times when you want to go out, and other times when you want to just have an afternoon nap.
Remembering that you're there to have fun and enjoy your time off with nothing to do is the most important part.
