Important Lessons We Learnt From 2020 Spent In Lockdown
2020 was definitely a tough one filled with isolation and uncertain times, but look at us, we made it out alive!
It was one of the most difficult years we’ve faced, but there was a lot to learn from it. In memory of 2020, let’s remember the good things that it taught us.
We can be strong and come together, even virtually
The Black Lives Matter movement was supported by lots of people in lockdown who could only support the movement from home. We also saw love being shared through our screens through FaceTime calls and video chats with loved ones during isolation.
We were able to adapt to a world with COVID-19 and still spread the love and support a worldwide movement while staying safe in our own homes. We were together and united physically but also virtually through our phones, computers, and laptops, and we survived and came out strong together.
Online shopping is super convenient
Not leaving the house during lockdowns did have the benefit of saving money. There was no paying for petrol, nights out, maccas runs with friends or shopping sprees at the local mall.
Our bank accounts grew since we weren’t spending as much from going out… unless we spent our days shopping online (I’m very, very, very guilty of doing this).
We learnt how it was way more convenient to buy everything online, from groceries and food on UberEats to clothes and health and skincare supplies. We were able to sit back and relax and get important things done while our groceries were delivered straight to our doorstep, such a time saver!
The world can be pretty cruel sometimes, so make sure you’re kind to yourself
The pandemic gave us all our fair share of lockdowns and stress, so looking after ourselves during difficult times has never been more important. We were all put into a situation we’ve never experienced before, and we all found our own ways to cope and stay entertained while being stuck in lockdown.
Some of us binged an entire Netflix series in one day, some of us took up a new hobby or two like baking, scrapbooking, or working out to keep active, and some of us spent time with loved ones at home or virtually through video chat or FaceTime calls.
We learnt how important it is to put our mental well-being first to help us handle the difficult times we were facing. Self-care is super important to help our gears keep churning along every day, and it helped us survive 2020 and equipped us for looking after ourselves through rough times in the future.
Never ever feel guilty for taking some time to look after yourself.
It’s okay to not feel okay sometimes
We all had our rough days in the rough times, and that is completely normal! Sometimes we just need to cry and let it all out and have a down day because we just don’t feel great, which is totally okay!
We’re only human and we can’t always feel super happy and at 100 every day, especially when times are tough. Always remember to look after yourself and reach out to loved ones or a mental health helpline for support when you’re not doing very well, it can be really beneficial in helping us feel better!
