How To Have A Life When You’re Broke AF
Overview
- Your social life doesn't have to crumble along with your savings account!!! 🤑
- From drinking goon to free gigs, here's how you can live it up with a few bucks. 😉
Since you’re reading this, you’re probably broke. And if you’re not, you’ve probably got at least one friend who can barely afford to leave the house. Learning how to money is bloody difficult, especially when you haven’t even learned how to adult yet.
With this in mind, we’ve got you covered with a couple of life hacks for maintaining a social life when you’re strapped for cash. Instead of sending that text, “hey guys, I’m broke as f*ck so I can’t afford to come out this weekend,” here are some suggestions for cheap ways to have fun.
1. Goon sacks
I mean, 'nuff said ammi right? You can still party 'til the cows come home and not have to pay the price of Jesus' tears for alco. Goon sacks are cheap as chippies. So cheap that you'll probs be able to afford chippies later in the night. 😉
2. Go to ze park
Mate: Let's go to that boujee restaurant we all love!
You: Hmm. Sounds swell. But you know a destination that rocks at sunset? The park!!
Mate: You're Einstein reincarnated. Cya there!
Why not bring your own snacks or get your mum to whip up some bangin' sandwiches and hang with your mates at the park! Your fondest mems will be shared out in nature with mates and food. Bless up!

3. Meal planning
Eating out has become a staple part of our culture (we are the smashed avocado generation after all). But you’ve got to pick your battles. Bring your lunch to work and save your money for a good weekend with your mates.
4. Free gigs
The best nights of my life have been free gigs. I mean, what's better than live music???!??! Nothing!!! You'll meet some funky people, find some new fave bands to idolize and boogie-woogie.🎶Suss out Facebook Events and get out into the music scene.
5. Get your mates to shout you
We all know that the pressure to come out and spend money comes from our closest friends. Rather than being vague about why you can’t come out, or making up some lame excuse, or pretending that you’ve got cash, put it back on them. Suggest a cheaper option. And if that doesn’t work, tell them you’ll come out if they shout you.
Now if you're still a bit frazzled when it comes to dollarydoos, look no further than our newest academy with Westpac: FinLit. You'll get the rundown on earning, spending, and saving your money in the big wide world!! 🤑🤑
