Little Things You Can Do To Be Healthier
Overview
- You don't have to read this whilst in a plank, making a protein smoothie or after meditating for three hours.
- These are little, healthy changes we can all make! And hey, sometimes it's the little things that really make an impact. 😉
Being healthy sounds like a drag. But sometimes, the healthier choices release all that much more serotonin.
Now, we're not saying you have to read this whilst in a plank, go make a protein smoothie or meditate for three hours. These are little changes we can all make!
1. Bring a water bottle everywhere
Drink your dang water.
"Oh! WOW! Revolutionary! I've never ever heard this before!"
Yes, I can detect the sarcasm from your screen. But seriously. Hydration is the key because it keeps you full, expands in your stomach, and helps with satiety overall. Bring a water bottle everywhere so that you get into the habit of always reaching for more water! Also, you won't have to result to buying plastic water bottles when you get thirsty (go mother nature!).
2. Opt for healthy drinking ops
Speaking of drinking, ditching soft drinks, energy drinks and your third coffee of the day is reaaallllyyyy good for you. They're jampacked with sugar and aren't doing wonders for your body. Why not try healthy kombuchas or juices?
Green tea is also a great bevvo op. It is low in calories and packed with plenty of nutrients and antioxidants. Studies have also shown that people who drink the most green tea tend to live longer, have a lower risk of heart disease and a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
And of course. Water is red hot as well. Can you tell that I love water?
3. Have healthy snacks
This makes me cringe at my past self. I remember I would fill my high school lunchbox with the most sugary snacks I could find (I mean seriously, if I didn't bring a packet of tiny teddies, I'd be in a FOUL mood).
But learning to swap sugary options for healthier choices has been a game-changer. Smiths chips? Let's try rice crackers instead. Roll ups? Let's give a muesli bar a crack.
And what about carrots dipped in hummus? Fruit salad? Peanut butter cruskets? All revolutionary and delicious.
4. Learn to cook
So like this is weird but like, eating healthily is like, good for you. Right?
Hahaha no - but seriously, you are what you eat. Learning how to cook will not only save your hard earned cash and allow you to figure out what's tasty, but it will also allow you to get acquainted with food and really figure out how to be healthy (and how easy it really is).
Learn how to make a healthy stir fry, good salads, curries, wraps...whatever floats your dingy really!
5. Catch some z's
A lot of us aren't getting enough sleep - yikes.
Find a sleep routine. Humans are creatures of habit, so make it a habit to hit the hay at, say, 11pm, and wake up at 7am.
Something that might help you get to better sleep is unplugging from technology an hour before bed. Your phone emits blue light, a type of lightwave that is common during the day. However, this means your devices may tricking your brain to think it is daytime, thus making it harder for you to pass out. Yikes.
Not too mention, you can set up a sleeping schedule on your phones nowadays. It's pretty lit. It tells you when to wind down and how long you slept for. Set those zzz goals, baby.
6. Get moving
Don’t panic if you’re not too keen on the gym. You can exercise without hitting the treadmill. Join a footy team. Try a yoga class. Have a boxing sesh with a mate. Go for a bike ride. Just find a fun way to get moving.
Being a kook is also hilarious. I went to a contemporary dance class with a mate and was pissing myself for the entire hour as I was so awful at it. But hey, I got my sweat on AND got some hilarious videos.
And if you can ditch the car and walk to work, do it! If you can bike ride to school instead of dragging dad outta bed to drive you, do it! Build exercise into your daily routine so you don't even notice you're breaking a sweat.
7. Look inwards
It's time to get hippie on ya. Looking after our physical bod by eating, sleeping and exercising is très important. But your mental state needs to be talked about when we think about healthy living. Give yourself R & R time away from people to watch your fave movies, read a book, journal or meditate. Talk to your mates and fam members about how you're feeling.
Look after yourself inside and out!
