Heres How To Keep Making Money While Studying For Exams
Overview
- Spoiler alert. You don't have to quit your job. (It's healthy and productive to keep it!) 🤑
- You could also set up a market stall or do some housesitting... In fact, here are some more ideas 😉
Exams are a messy period for everyone. Even at your best you’re sleeping less, eating worse and spending more. Plus, with all that time spent scrambling from one exam to the next – and panicking intermittently in between – you’ve barely got a chance to make money.
All this adds up to a whole lotta stress at a time when you probably need a clear head the most. We know how far some extra cash can go in keeping you sane during these trying times, so we’ve teamed up with Westpac to give you some tips to keep making money while studying for ya exams. Here we go:
Don’t quit your job
Heaps of students stop working during their exams or even throughout their last year of high school thinking it will help them get better marks. Sure, they had more time without those pesky shifts at their local Maccas, but mostly what that meant is they had more time to procrastinate and generally be unhappy.
Try and keep your job during exams. Work can be a healthy and productive way to take a break from studying, get out of the house and see some mates outside of school/uni. You can’t be cooped up in your room all day and it’s absolutely beneficial for your mental health and your performance to mix it up a bit; and you may as well be earning money whilst doing so. Plus, having some shifts throughout the week helps structure your days and can help make sure you’re not wasting the time you do have!
Set up a market stall
Chances are you’re already freaking out about exams and therefore hating all the clothes you own or itching to do something drastic like get a new piercing or tattoo. Channel this energy ✨positively✨ by taking the fiscally responsible route of selling the clothes that don’t suit your vibe anymore. Grab a few of your mates and make a day out of it by setting up a market stall, or if you’re feeling lazy just use Facey, Insta or apps like Depop to slog your wares.

Housesitting
If you’ve got a relative or a family friend with pets (or heaps of plants) and you know they’re about to go on a holiday, it’s your time to pounce. Offer to housesit for them while they’re gone and promise to take care of their fur/plant babies. While a lot of the time just having their house to yourself is enough of a sweet deal, why not push your luck and try and get paid for your labour? After all, we both know their yappy Jack Russell is a lot of work.
Return and earn
Be an absolute superhero by saving the planet while you earn your dosh with this option. You’ve probably heard about the Return and Earn system where you can return bottles and cans at the local drop-off area for cash money; you might have even seen some slick neighbourhood kids collecting bottles from your street. 10c a bottle might not seem like much, but they really add up the more bottles you collect and let’s face it – walking around searching for recyclables might be the only exercise you get while you’re studying for your exams.
