Stuff I Miss That My Mum Used To Do For Me
I remember I craved independence like nothing else when I was younger. I lusted for a day that I could leave the house without mum asking; "where are you going", "who're you going with?", and "when will you be back?" Loosen the leash, jeez!
When I finally moved out, I grasped freedom by the balls. I was stoked! But eventually, I missed more and more things that my beautiful ma used to do for me.
Today's lesson is why you should never take your mum and all the red hot things she does for you, for granted.
When she is a nurse
All I had to do was say "ah, I have a sore throat" and mum would be possessed by nurse spirits. She'd be boiling ginger, lemon, and honey and forcing me to drink every sip whilst making soup. She'd tuck me in on the couch, shutting the blinds and turn on a movie.
Now when I'm as crook as a dog, I have me, myself and I to help me. Sue me, sometimes it's nice to have someone coddle you.
When she is a chef
Why is it that when I literally just make pasta, one of the simplest dishes to nail, it tastes meh but when mum makes it, it tastes like food of the gods? Maybe the secret ingredient is that motherly love... Or maybe I'm just not cooking the pasta for long enough... either way, mum's is always better.
When she is psychic
When I moved out of home I was startled to find out how quickly you go through the essentials. Toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, salt, olive oil, dishwashing liquid... How did mum always know what to buy at the grocery store?
Not only that, whenever I said I needed socks, undies, or deodorant, mum would retain that knowledge like Rain Man and always pick it up for me when she could. Normally, she would even pick it up before I'd even noticed that I needed it. Are mum's psychic? Seriously.
When she has an internal GPS
"Mum, where's my sport shirt?"..."Hanging on the line".
How did she always know where everything was? Even if she didn't, she'd find it in a second as if she had an internal GPS for everything in the house. I could really do with that right now as I have lost my fave Beatles shirt. In fact, maybe mum will know where it is. BRB, gonna message her.
Appreciate your mum. Seriously. When you move out, all the little things she used to do that wouldn't even be on your radar, you'll miss like crazy.
