Overview
  • Torn between unis? Macquarie Uni might be your vibe. They have sick facilities (think fancy labs and radio studios!), internships built into degrees, and lecturers who actually care.

Choosing which university to study at is never an easy decision, so to start with, I’d recommend comparing all the perks, the opportunities and the facilities available at your top three choices. Once you’re done, you’ll be left with a shortlist from which you can test who you vibe with the most.

For me, that uni was Macquarie, so I thought I’d pass on the five biggest reasons Macquarie passes the vibe check..

1. You can put your ideas in motion

At Macquarie, students have access to industry-standard science labs; radio, film and music studios; an on-campus hospital; a start-up incubator and a bunch of other stunning facilities where you can gain super-valuable hands-on experience and create high-quality work to showcase in your profesh portfolio.

2. Get industry experience while you study

Most degrees at Macquarie have an internship built in, so you can gain industry experience before you graduate. You can apply for an internship at any organisation that’s relevant to your degree, but Macquarie partners with a bunch of businesses on, or near the campus, who take on interns every year, like Cochlear and 2SER FM.

3. Lecturers and tutors who get it (and want the best for you)

The lecturers and tutors at Macquarie go above and beyond, grinding to create degree content that’s engaging enough for our TikTok brains to pay attention to (and dare I say, genuinely enjoy!). When you show up to your classes, you’ll find that tutors genuinely care about you and your career. Like my radio professor who tuned into my 2SER drive show pretty much every week.

4. Make lifelong friends

Once you start uni, you’ll find that making friends is a whole different kettle of fish compared to high school. Luckily, Macquarie is a tight-knit uni, so you get to know the people in your degree pretty well. Before you know it, the strangers you played icebreaker games with on your first day of uni become the friends you meet up with after class for a coffee or hang out with during your lunch breaks. I mean, to this day, one of my closest friends is the guy I happened to sit next to on the first day of classes.

5. The campus

Finally, one of the greatest things about studying at Macquarie is the campus. There are the fairy-light lit trees lining Wally’s Walk, the grassy knoll by the lake overlooking the famous fountain, brand new teaching spaces, and of course, the food court and Ubar combo that offers more food and drink options than you can shake a stick at.

So, if you’re looking for a uni with great facilities, a stunning campus, staff that care, a tight-knit community of students, and real work experience opportunities, you should defs consider Macquarie. You can find your degree by searching their website
