So, you’ve found your passion, and that passion is music. You’re in love and you want to spend the rest of your days exploring, learning, and sharing everything it has to offer. The music industry can be a tough one to crack, but contrary to popular belief, it’s not just reserved for the world’s elite musicians.

There’s such a broad array of career paths within the music industry that anyone with the right mix of determination and passion could find themselves getting paid to do the thing they love. Sounds pretty good to us, so we’ve pulled together some of our fave jobs in music for you to get your head around.

1. Sound Engineer

Have you ever been to a festival and wondered how the music being played on stage was getting blasted out to you with such clarity? Or been amazed by the otherworldly sounds some artists somehow manage to convert into music?

Sound engineers get into the nitty gritty side of sound and music production, toying with what we hear in order to produce a specific sound – whether it’s for albums, conferences, video games or a podcast.

2. Talent Manager

If you want to pursue a career in music but aren’t that into the actual making of the music itself, then becoming a talent manager could be the best path for you.

An artist manager looks after everything involved in the actual running of a band (think booking and promoting gigs and negotiating deals), so that the band members can devote all their time to the creative stuff.

The Bachelor of Entertainment (Business Management) at JMC provides you with not only the practical skills you need to kickstart your career as a talent manager, but also a solid network of industry contacts to give you an advantage from the get-go.

3. Festival Organiser

If the talent management career above sounds okay to you, but the idea of working for just one or two bands doesn’t quite do it for ya, then perhaps you could investigate the event management side of things.

Imagine pulling together a huge line-up of heaps of awesome acts, bringing thousands of people together to witness the performances, and knowing that you orchestrated the whole thing. The same Bachelor of Entertainment at JMC can act as a launching pad for you to begin a whirlwind career in event management.

From negotiating with artists, to booking venues, working out licences, and promoting the events, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes at a festival that you could be a part of.

4. Music Teacher

If you’re the type who loves to introduce people to the amazing world of music, then becoming a teacher could be your calling. From teaching at schools or universities, to private tuition, there’s always a need for an enthusiastic teacher who can spark some creative passion into their students.

JMC offers a Bachelor of Music (Contemporary Performance) which will not only drastically improve your musicianship, it’ll also give you the knowledge you need to pass onto any future students.

5. Advertising Creative (Jingle Writer)

Do you still remember the tunes to ads on TV from when you were a kid? Reckon you’ve got an ear to create short, catchy songs that will get stuck in people’s heads?

Jingle writing can be a hard industry to break into, but it can also be a fairly lucrative one once you finally do. JMC’s Bachelor of Music (Songwriting) is a perfect stepping-stone if you’re looking to jump into the world of creative advertising – and you’ll be sure to learn how to come up with a memorable melody along the way.
