Overview
  • So many people are now choosing to work in the tech industry, and we don't blame 'em - it's a sweet gig. Here's why:

$$$$$

The tech industry has a reputation for paying buttloads and it’s not overhyped.

Tech salaries are skyrocketing. Salaries for some key roles have surged by as much as 20 percent in the past two years. Average salaries of a senior developer and business analyst in Sydney is a whopping $170,000. While data scientists, data analysts and analytics managers salaries round out at $150,000, $90,000 and $150,000 respectively. Whew.

Get your piece of the pie ASAP.

Be in demand for life

It’s low-key nice being fought over right? By working in tech, you’ll be the most valuable employee and in-demand skills.

If the last two years have shown us anything, its technology is transforming the way we live and work at an unprecedented rate. That’s why the tech industry needs people now more than ever.

I mean if robots are gonna take over the world, we may as well work with ‘em. Kidding, but seriously,  job security for life? Where do I sign up?

Invent cool shit

If 1997 seems like decades ago, that's because it was. I, like most of you, wasn’t even born yet.

The DVD player was the hot new entertainment device, mobile phones were bricks, the first app was created - a built-in version of the basic arcade game “Snake”, and accessing the internet was confined to desktop computers. Nowadays 3.5 billion people use smartphones, everyone gets their answers from Alexa or Siri, and it's a crime not to have WiFi (not really, but it should be). Bitcoin (??), online dating, autonomous cars, Netflix, food delivery, Bluetooth…you name it. The world has changed tremendously in 25 years.

So imagine where the world is headed next? Who is going to be the one to invent eye-cameras and reversible hair-cuts (asking for a friend). It could be you!

Endless career opportunities

Tech jobs aren’t reserved for skinny nerds who wear glasses and live in their Mum’s basement writing codes. While this may represent some people in the tech industry, others may look like Tony Stark “Iron Man”, Ferris Bueller or Whitney Wolfe Herd.

It's a myth that you have to be good at math and science to succeed in tech jobs. You actually need to be creative too. Some careers in technology, like app developers and web designers, need people who can tap into their creativity and dream up innovative solutions to everyday challenges.

“Tech” also isn’t just “IT”. There's a tonne of career opportunities in the tech industry. Who knows, you may even work for the next Google, Uber or Facebook?

Make a real difference

Technology has the power to do many things, and changing the world is one of them.

If you work in the tech industry, you might be helping to create devices and apps that make people's lives easier, and more enjoyable.

DNA testing, solar panels, health tracking, distance education, space tourism, self-driving cars, genome sequencing and 3D printing…the sky's the limit.
