Calling all savvy savers, money whizzes and folks of absolutely any kind that would love a prestigious title like ‘money whizz’.

Do you think you’re pretty wise when it comes to money? Do you know a trick or two that most people don’t? Or maybe you’ve got absolutely no clue and would like to know more? Well, it’s time to put your money where your mouth is and test whether you’re financially lit(erate) with FinLit.

FinLit is a financial literacy program, brought to you by Year13 and Westpac, so we can teach you guys the stuff school never did. The program is designed to make sure you’ll walk away with everything (we hope) you need to know when it comes to money through Year13’s four modules of work, study, travel and life.

Oh, and potentially $1,000 richer.

Yurp, we’re giving away $1,000 to one lucky bee who successfully finishes the FinLit program by passing all four quizzes with 80 percent. If you do this, you’ll automatically go into the draw to win the moolah and you’ll definitely have earned yourself the title of money whizz.

So, if you reckon you already got this down pat, jump on over to FinLit and give the quizzes a crack. Or, if you think you could do with some polishing, have a read of what each module of the modules can teach you when it comes to the big ol’ world of money:

Work

The work module will give you a better idea of what happens when you get your first job, with the lowdown of some of the scary stuff like doing your taxes, what the heck super is and why you’re paying it, how to actually budget, as well as everything to do with bank fees and savings accounts.

Study

No matter whether you’re heading to uni, college, TAFE or even taking your learning outside the classroom, the study module will teach you an absolute bucketload of money-related stuff from figuring out your options post-school, getting your final marks right up to surviving the student life. Think HECS-HELP, government allowances, scholarships and moving out of home to study.

Travel

We know how absolutely amazing it is to travel. But we also know that it’s pretty expensive and it pays to be prepared. The travel module will explore the costs of traversing the globe, including tips on how to budget and plan for schoolies, what to expect when you’re booking a trip overseas from flights and accommodation to travel insurance, and lastly, how to actually survive while you’re away with changing exchange rates, travel cards and sneaky scams.

Life

Last and certainly not least, you’ll tackle the beast that is life itself. We’re talking everything that comes with being an adult- credit cards and how they work, what the hell Medicare is and what it covers, buying a car and the costs that come with it, and everything to do with moving out home, from bills and rent to crappy housemates.

Now that you’ve got a better idea of what FinLit can teach you, jump on over here and suss it out. After you’ve had a solid read and brushed up on your knowledge, go test yourself with our quizzes at the end of each module to see if you really are money-savvy. And hey, you may even be $1,000 richer in the process.
