When we move into our first student accommodation, it can be a bit of a shock to the system; there are so many things to consider.

You might wonder if you’ll click with everyone, whether you should choose a studio or sharehouse, what housekeeping is expected - and whether it’s ok to lock yourself away in your room for a bit of alone time!

Everyone wants to hang in harmony and make memories - so how do you navigate all the complexities of shared living? Well you can stop worrying, ‘cause Scape student accommodation has all the answers to your burning questions! Have a read of some tried and tested - and usually unspoken - rules that everyone needs to know.

You can pick your new mates

When you meet the people you’ll be living amongst, for the first few weeks you’ll probably wonder if you’ll get on - like with that girl who sometimes doesn’t pick up her towels. Or that guy who never seems to wash his dishes.

But the likelihood is, you’ll share a house with someone you’ll be friends with for life. Whether in the heart of bustling Sydney or laid-back Brissy, you’ll get to choose awesome new mates. And it’s not just about meeting new people either - it’s about gaining a whole community of like-minded people you feel yourself with.

At Scape Australia, you’ll get the chance to meet all kinds of people with similar interests and goals. From solo studios in Melbourne to six bedroom apartments in Brisbane, Scape is all about letting you do the talking.

You use it, you clean it

This might seem like an obvious one - but some people just don’t always think to clean up after themselves!

It’s so important to get off on the right foot with your new mates and respect the space you're in - wash your own pots and pans, bleach that loo - and don’t forget to change your bedsheets from time to time!

After a lifetime of family members doing the laundry and whatever else might need to be done, going completely solo might come as a shock to the system. At least at Scape student digs there is ample opportunity to take control with things like cooking your own meals - from a fully kitted out studio kitchen to a communal cooking space, you’ll definitely get to flex your independence.

Don’t judge

Once you leave home, you’ll experience complete freedom - which is a beautiful feeling. From cooking up a storm at 3am with mates to choosing what time you get up, it’ll all be on you. As amazing as living away from home will be, sometimes it can lead to a bit of a lack of structure; missing the odd lecture here and there and sleeping in till noon. We’ve all been there!

The key thing is to remember that it takes time to adjust and if you or any one of your new mates has an adjustment period - that’s ok! Go easy on your fellow students - and yourself - as you suss out your new routine - whether it’s Scape’s morning yoga classes, night time trips to the cinema or spacious gaming spaces, with 24 hour support available - it’ll all come together.
