The 5 Soft Skills You Need To Get A Job
Overview
- If you want the low-down on sweet soft skills that'll take your career places, help you make friends at work and generally be considered a legend, you're in the right place ✨
Kinda like tacos, there are two main types of skills - hard and soft. Hard skills are all about specialised knowledge and technical abilities very specific to your career. Computing, Microsoft Excel, translation, presentations and blockchain (??) are some prime examples.
Just realising I possess precisely ~zero~ of these hard skills...guess I’d better keep my day job.
Then you have your soft skills, these are more personal habits and traits that shape how you work on your own, perform in a team and make work a jolly good time.
Low and behold our top 5 soft skills you need to gain some brownie points in the future workforce. Now go and make that resume glow. ✨
Creativity
If you’re good at thinking outside the box, you're going to be in high demand. You don’t have to be the reincarnation of Van Gogh, but just being open minded and able to analyse and problem solve in creative ways can do wonders.
Teamwork
“There’s no I in team” - cringe, but facts. No matter where you work, it’s not gonna be a one-woman show (unless you’re starring in an off-broadway production of The Vagina Monologues). Any business needs more than one person working well together in order to succeed. Demonstrating teamwork skills means being able to listen, communicate, manage conflict, be respectful and reliable (looking at you, uni assignment group).
Persuasion
No, this isn’t nagging until you get your way or throwing hands. It’s actually more like being able to convince an Alaskan to buy ice. Persuasion is the ability to clearly outline your idea and present it well to get others on your side. It involves reasoning, sharing feels, and cleverly conveying information.
Adaptability
The world changes in the blink of an eye, so employers need people who can work around it. Super important for personal and professional growth, you need to be the type of person who doesn’t fear change but embraces it!
Time Management
If you froth prioritisation and don’t sweat over deadlines, you’re sorted. Employers have caught on that longer hours doesn’t always mean being more productive. If you're good at turning up on time and getting stuff done, you're sweet.
