At uni, you may feel like a little fish in a big pond amongst the hustle and bustle that you're not accustomed to yet but fear not.

There are tonnes of things to look forward to at uni like new people, places and opportunities...I for one was most dazzled by the new selection of food at the cafe. Spinach rolls, sweet potato wedges and basil pasta!!!! What did I do to deserve all this?!

Oh man, it's a whole new world at uni.

1. Start afresh

In high school, everyone is trying to figure out who the hell they are. When we start uni, we have a firmer grasp of what makes us us, and it's refreshing to be around people who are unapologetically themselves as well.

If you always wanted to dye your hair or wear hippier clothing or strive to be nicer or more extroverted, then go for it! This is your clean slate to be the person you're meant to be!

Or maybe you're just keen to get away from high school, where you vomited on your crush at a party, a rumour went around that you got scabies and you made a fool of yourself in front of everyone at the Year 12 formal...or maybe that was just me... I'll have you know that I haven't vommed on anyone at uni so I am being who I'm meant to be.

2. A new pool of people

Meeting new people is fun!! And even if you're so introverted that you'd rather skydive than introduce yourself, you'll most likely find a fair few people feeling the same way.

Uni is where you'll meet likeminded people, people passionate about the things you're passionate about, people keen to learn, people from all around the city, state, country, heck, even from all around the world.

Let's also not brush past the fact that uni is a whole new babe pool... I very quickly forgot about my many high school crushes on the first day of uni.

3. The course

I mean, surely you're keen to actually learn a thing or two and hopefully, it's something you're interested in. A bonus is that you'll be surrounded by likeminded people as well as teachers who have hands-on experience and are passionate.

4. Parties

Uni parties will make high school parties look cute in comparison. All I'm going to say is, you'll finally comprehend the definition of the word 'lit' and the phrase 'send it'.

5. New location

Say goodbye to the bleak high school classrooms with chipping paint, a broken air conditioner and dodgy, graffitied desks. You won't have to walk through the same gates you've walked through every morning for 6 years, passing the same buildings, basketball courts, soccer fields... Finally, something new!

Say hello to a new environment with funky places to study, new rooms, library, sports facilities and of course, did I mention new places to eat.

6. Clubs and societies… Book club, sport, my film school has a run club…

Universities are always abundant in clubs and societies. Book clubs, movie clubs, sewing clubs, run clubs... So many clubs! There are environmental groups or sports teams you can join or heck, you can even start if you want.

If you're looking for more like-minded people, need an excuse to exercise or read more... you can get amongst it!

7. New opportunities - Could go abroad?

Universities bring you more contacts and networking opportunities with people in your desired field. You could score a gnarly internship or some work experience.

There are normally studying abroad opportunities up for grabs as well which is literally the dreeeeam!

So welcome to the new pond. Go join a club, meet some people, get on top of your assessments whilst also going to some gnarly uni parties. Breathe in that new fresh air of a fresh place.
