Why Studying Shouldn't Mean You're Stuck Behind A Desk
We spend 13 years of our life learning the same way. Sitting behind a desk, copying down notes, memorising essays and dumping everything from our brains into an exam booklet. We’ve done it for so long, it’s almost hard to think that studying and learning can be done another way.
But, once you leave high school, you start to realise that even though we’ve spent nearly our entire academic lives doing the same thing, studying doesn’t mean you need to be stuck behind a desk.
Wild, right?
You can’t learn everything from a textbook
The truth is, we can continue studying and learning without having to sit through the hard slog we did in high school. Studying doesn’t need to be remembering a bunch of PowerPoint slides just so we can write them down during an exam (and completely forget about them after). It doesn’t need to be being trapped in a classroom for hours and hours. It doesn’t need to be reading (and re-reading) a textbook until your head hurts.
The truth is, there are plenty of other ways to learn like getting real-world experience, teachers who are industry experts and actual work placements. And, there are plenty of places, that will let you do just that as a part of getting your qualification.
TAFE NSW is a perfect example of one of these places. They offer courses in a whole range of areas and you can even complete your bachelor’s degree with them so no matter what your passion is, they’ll have the course for you. At TAFE NSW, they don’t stick you behind a desk and tell you to learn. They’re big on real-world learning which means whatever you’re studying, you’ll actually get to experience.
Imagine studying film and photography and being able to use state-of-the-art cameras and green screens. Or studying fashion and having access to textile printing studios. From VR to TV studios, their facilities are top notch and exactly what you need.
On top of that, TAFE NSW has a heap of connections with industry partners and professional teachers with real-world experience. Their teachers are experts first and most of them still work in the industry and are completely involved and connected with the real world of work. Basically, you’ll be learning from people who know exactly what they’re talking about.
These are the things that help you actually learn (and not just memorise facts to sit a test). When you graduate from TAFE NSW, you won’t just have a piece of paper with a qualification. You’ll have legitimate experience, industry connections and the skills to succeed - not just the theory of what you need to do.
One of the best bits is that you don’t need an ATAR to study with a degree with TAFE NSW either, meaning you could get started in 3D Art and Animation, Commerce, Community Services, Early Childhood Education, Creative Practice, Information Technology, Fashion Design, Business, Property Valuation and Interior Design – without stressing about what your final ranking was.
