How Do I Find The Right Uni Course For Me?
Overview
- How do you actually go about finding your dream course?
- Let's look at a few ways you can explore your options and get a feel for what a course or uni is really like.
From the moment we’re able to walk and talk, we’re given tools and toys that have a purpose. We know exactly what aspirational career we want before we even know how to get there.
As we get older, our aspirations change - and we start thinking a bit more realistically. What the career entails, whether it’s in reach, and whether we’re actually interested.
It’s hard to find something you’re passionate about, that ticks all your boxes. Even up to those last few days before uni offers come out, you might not feel 100% confident about where your degree will take you. Here's how you can find the right uni course just for you:
Hear from past alumni and where they are now
Get a better understanding of where uni students started, and how their degree (and uni connections) landed them their dream job! Check out some of UTS’ alumni stories, or chat with someone from their Future Students team to get all the info you need!
Identify your strengths and what you enjoy doing
If you’ve found something you excel at, and you feel a sense of achievement from it, why not tap into those skills? Whether you love a certain subject at school or can recognise if you’re academically or creatively driven, you can find out what career path might suit you best by doing a Career Personality Quiz!
Focus on the journey and not your destination
Having big goals and aspirations is awesome, but the jobs, connections you make and skills learnt along the way are just as important. Consider this when looking at the subjects in your course, or the variety of jobs available in your desired industry.
Look for similar courses with bigger opportunities
Why limit yourself to one career? Create exciting combinations and open yourself up to more opportunities by doing a double degree. It not only gives you an advantage to be more competitive in a rapidly changing workplace, but also allows you to try out different areas and see what career path fits you best. Plus, if you don’t get the ATAR you want, these similar courses could be your way in!
Choosing your uni course is the first of many tough decisions you'll make throughout your life. You’re no longer tied to those 9am-3pm school hours, and competitive rankings are out the window. It’s an exciting time! If you want to make the most of your first year and the start to your post-school plans, suss out UTS and the uni courses they have on offer.
