Coming from someone that doesn’t have a chill bone in my body, I do struggle finding ways to wind down that’s not just hitting my head to the pillow and crashing at 11pm every night.

I’m good with sleep but as soon as my alarm goes off in the morning, I’m up and roaring to go. I cleanse my face, brush my teeth, have some brekkie, tie up the hair and I’m ready for work. It’s almost like I’m non-stop until I’m back in bed but I have found some good techniques (that’s not yoga, sorry you flex baddies) to get you chilled out before or after a busy day. Here are some of my faves.

Sit in the sun

What better way to start or end your day with some of the sunshine vitamin? I reckon nothing is better than sitting on the grass, with the back of your head facing the sun, soaking in all the warmth on a colder day. Lie down, listen to a podcast, some chill tracks or maybe get in tune with nature by listening to your surroundings. It’ll make you feel totally rejuvenated and refreshed!

Spend time in nature

Bouncing off the above, why not chill out at your closest lake? Grab some oats or grains and feed the ducks or go on a slow-paced walk in the bush to really take it in. It’ll really ground you to be disconnected from our sometimes chaotic lives.

Get a massage

A bit more on the pricier side but I have never not enjoyed a massage when I’ve been feeling tense. Those warm towels, essential oils, hot stones, and your masseuse taking the edge off those pressure points - it’s the best and worth every cent!

Watch Day In The Life YT videos

After a busy day of staring at your computer screen, why not keep going? (Joking, kinda). After I’ve had dinner and a shower, I love snuggling up under the sheets, whipping out YouTube on my phone and catching up with all my subs in their vlogging vids. No matter what it is - it’s generally a pretty chill vibe, whether they’re cooking recipes, going to the farmers market, gardening, eating, literally anything - I’m keen to sit back and enjoy.

Pilates

Alright, I know ALL of you are now saying something along the lines of “I thought she was giving us some ways that had nothing to do with exercise” but hey, yoga and pilates are different! Pilates is all about correcting posture, core strength and strengthening your muscles. While it is low-impact, don’t be too quick to judge, it’s pretty hard to get the technique down pat. You will be able to zone out and only focus on your movements + feel soooo much better after a session. Have a geeze at reformer pilates, it is my all-time fave!

Find what’s best for you but in this disorderly and anxious time that is lockdown, make sure you spend a bit of each day to be completely chill!
