I'm gonna be real honest with you for a second... If I'm tagged in one more L plater meme, I'm going to spontaneously combust.

Being the last mate on your L's feels like being the only one not in on a secret. Everyone is whispering about tyre pressure, the cost of petrol and engine coolant whilst you're in the corner having to text your mum to come and pick you up.

Then your mum is like "mate, I didn't raise you to be such a loser... Get your P's already," and then you cry yourself to sleep again. Okay maybe my mum isn't that much of a savage. To be fair though, she is quite bummed that I can't do the groceries yet or pick up my little brother (who at this rate will probably get his license before me). But hey, don't hate the player, hate the game homie.

I definitely cop a lot of slack from my mates. They act as if I've stepped on a dogs' paw when I ask for a lift. Like dude, I'll shout you Maccas and give you a 5-star uber rating. What's all the fuss about?

Yeah nah, I get it. I'm the weakest link of the group. I can't drive during road trips or be the deso driver. I'm the sad sack of potatoes who has to scab lifts left right and centre. If I can't score one, I'm left to my own devices:

  • A) Walking. To be fair, I now have calves of steel; or
  • B) The bus. My friends call buses 'loser cruisers' which is way harsh. They're convenient, cheap and good for the environment.

Look, it's not like I've gone out of my way NOT to get my license. Having the liberty to swiftly get from A to B is a blessing, a convenience and somewhat of a coming-of-age ritual that I'm very behind on!

But driving is scary. And the more time I wait to get my license, the scarier I build it up to be in my head.

I know you're probably thinking "yeah right, what an excuse!"

I'll get over it eventually.

This is now for my mates: I will pay you guys back eventually by being the deso driver whilst you guys get smashed, driving you all to Maccas and pulling my weight during long road trips.

But whilst I have your attention... Can I have a lift?
