  • Is your calendar looking a bit empty on New Year's Eve? Or maybe you're just not keen on the plans you've got?
  • Either way, here are some great ways you can ring in the New Year without breaking the bank.

With Christmas at the forefront of everyone’s minds, it’s easy to leave organising New Year’s Eve plans to the last minute. So if you’re currently at a loss for how to spend the last night of 2022, here are a couple of ideas that are easy to plan at the last minute and won’t cost a bomb.

Throw A Dinner Party

If you know a few other people who don’t have plans yet, invite them over for a dinner party at your place. Have some fun decorating, and make a playlist that will end the year on a high.

Get everyone to bring one dish each, or just order some pizzas if nobody can be bothered to cook. Then if you have the space to do so, set up a fire in the backyard. Sit around and reminisce about the year that's been, or play a simple game like celebrity heads – a very underrated game imo.

Park Picnic

If nobody is able to host the night at their house, a picnic in a local park can be just as good, if not better. There are plenty of parks in Sydney that have a great view of the midnight fireworks, but you might need to get down early to get a decent spot.

Bring some snacks and a speaker for music (just be respectful of anyone else around you trying to enjoy their night). If you’re wanting to have a couple drinks, just make sure you check the regulations in that specific area.

Treat Yourself

If your friends are away on holidays or already have plans for New Year’s, take some time out for yourself on New Year’s Eve. Or maybe you’re just not vibing with a late night of partying which is more than understandable.

Instead, cook or order your favourite food, and draw yourself a bath. Then get comfy and watch a subpar holiday movie and finish off the evening with an early night – which brings me to the next suggestion.

Start The New Year With A Great Sleep

Honestly, kicking off the new year with a full eight hours is so ideal. I always find that I’m catching up on sleep for the best part of a week after having a late night on New Year's Eve, which can feel like I’m starting off the year on the back foot.

If New Year’s resolutions are your thing, you could even set a goal to start a nightly routine and have a better sleep schedule next year.

But no matter what you end up doing, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have a great night if you have good company – even if that company is yourself. So start getting that night planned, and here’s to a great 2023!
