High school: even on the most average of days it’s a strange time for everybody. And now, with everything that’s going on in the world, it’s never been stranger.

Everything that happens in high school seems so sharp and significant. And to be honest, there is truth in that sentiment. Especially come your final year.

Normally in your final year of high school, your thoughts start shifting. Suddenly you’re no longer reminiscing about house parties and mooning over crushes; things turn more seriously to what life beyond the school gates might look like. Naturally, you buckle down and start to think about exams and assessments more often than you’d like. Slowly but surely, your final mark becomes a pretty daunting thought.

Pile on top of that the additional stress of not knowing what Year 12 exams are even going to look like this year and it’s easy to get carried away with all-consuming thoughts of what your final mark will mean for your future.

But the more you obsess on it, the harder it’ll be to think clearly. It’s time to take a deep breath and consider your situation rationally. You’re living through unprecedented, stressful and distracting times. It’s certainly thrown a spanner in the works, but you’re not alone. In fact, your whole cohort are probably sharing the same thoughts as you.

We’re telling ya, now is not the time to fold your cards and call it quits on 2020 because we’re certainly not quittin’ on you! You can still make your post school plans happen, even if you find yourself in one of these situations:

1. You no longer have money to travel or move for university

There’s a good chance you’re out of work and no longer earning sweet dosh that you may had been saving to leave the nest and kick off your new chapter of life in university. But online study options are a great way to jump in because you don’t have to spend a chunk of your money travelling to campus or even interstate.

From Business to Education, our mates at Charles Darwin University (CDU) offer a bunch of online study options. The beauty is that you can do a degree entirely online, which means you can make it happen in a way that works for you. Want to sleep in during the day and study at night? Go wild. Want to be able to work and earn some dosh and make your study fit around your schedule? Easy peasy! Wanna travel whilst earning yourself a degree? Can do!

2. You’re worried about not receiving the final mark you wanted

With such a sudden change and things still up in the air surrounding Year 12 exams, it’s easy to be caught up in the mindset that your final mark is in jeopardy.

However, CDU have a truckload of pathway programs out there for students that didn’t quite get the ATAR they were looking for.

3. You’re no longer sure what you want to do anymore

One of the most beautiful things about life is that things change. And it is totally fine to not know what you want to do. What you’ve got to think about is what makes you happy. Make choices that aren’t going to make you want to curl up in a ball of blankets and never come out. To figure out what you’re keen on is to start dipping your toes into a million metaphorical pools and find what’s best for you.

As a dual-sector university (meaning a uni that offers higher ed and vocational courses), CDU have pathways for everyone. Their array of both undergraduate degrees and VET courses means you’ll be able to start with a Certificate level and work your way to Higher Education at your own pace.

Think of it as the ultimate cheese grazing board; take a nibble here and a nibble there, sample the fine offerings and decide on the thing that works best for you only when you’ve had plenty of time to test all the options.
