Why It's Ok When Things Don't Go To Plan
Overview
- No matter how much we try to plan things; our day, our week or our life - sometimes they just...don't work out. But we're here to tell you that it's not only normal; it can actually be a good thing ✨ *Spoiler: you don't need to plan out your whole life 🥴
It can feel super disappointing and crazy frustrating when things don't go to plan. From your ATAR to your career to meeting the love of your life, it's pretty common to want to have it sussed.
I remember reaching my twenties wondering when the heck everything was going to fall into place. But I'm here to tell you that when a spanner is inevitably thrown in the works, it can be a golden ✨ opportunity to make room for new - and sometimes better - plans. 🌈
Here are some pearls of wisdom to reassure yourself you're in good hands with ol' mate universe.
Success usually comes after failure 💫
Bill Gates - one of the richest men in the world - failed multiple times before creating Microsoft. Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper because he 'lacked creativity'. Shooketh.
If they'd have given up after things didn't go to plan, they wouldn't have made the contributions to society that changed lives. Can you imagine a world without Disney?! SHAN'T.
The moral of the story is: failure is not the end result, it is but a temporary glitch.
There is beauty in letting some thing just...happen 🔮
Here's a scary thought: we don't actually have any control over anything. Anything could happen at any moment. But that's also super exciting! Stepping back and allowing some things to unfold naturally means less stress for you and ultimately giving in to the magic and randomness of life.
You start to see the good in every situation 🌏
When things don't go the way you envisioned, you will start to realise it's not as clear-cut as failure and success - it's about perspective! Like when I didn't get a job I really really wanted, and one I thought was perfect for me (it wasn't).
Just as I was starting to get fed up of rejection, an amazing job came along and welcomed me with open arms - and it was everything I needed. Now I see every rejection as a sign that better things are around the corner. The universe KNOWS.
You are able to forgive yourself when things go wrong 🥰
Forgiveness is key here, folks. Missed that flight? Cry then laugh. Broken up with the one? You'll feel so much better in a few weeks. And while it's normal to beat yourself up, be mad and disappointed, you've got to be kind to yourself too. Forgive yourself for making mistakes, having regrets and being, well - human.
Life's full of surprises - and that's a good thing 💐
How boring would life be if it went EXACTLY to plan. Every. Single. Time. Life is meant to have ups, downs and in-betweens. And that's kinda beautiful.
There's no perfect answer; twists, turns and false starts are part of the rich tapestry of life. Everyone on the planet goes through it - and that's ok. ❤️
