5 Reasons Why You Should Travel Solo
At the end of the day, the only person you can rely on for an epic, personalised adventure is yourself. No matter how many times you’ve tried to reel in your mates and convince them that a Contiki will be a life-changing experience (100% will be btw), they’ll still find some excuse to dog ya. Look, it sucks but at least you know where your priorities lie, in a carry-on bag, somewhere far, far away.
Why not have a look into setting off on a trip alone? Look, you may be singing Lonely by Akon for half of the trip there but I can promise you that it’ll be one of the most life-changing experiences that you’ll remember forever. You’ll never find yourself if you’re stuck in your comfort zone so get out there! Whether you’re keen on driving around in a van, moving from hostel to hostel while exploring the sights or want to climb Everest, here’s our goss on why you should ride solo during your travels.
You’ll find yourself
Sounds cheesy, doesn’t it? But I mean every bit about it - travelling solo will allow you to take in experiences like you never have before. Get lost, let your mind wander and you’ll find out what you truly enjoy doing during your travels without any restraints.
You’re young, wild and free
If there’s any time to do it, it’s now. You have the least physical assets that you’ll ever have. No mortgage, no children and a deadbeat car on its last legs? Sounds like a perfect opportunity to save up your money fast and jet-set outta here. Plus, you’re much more open-minded when you’re young to try new things!
It’s easier to slow down
When you’re travelling with friends or your partner, it’s hard to take breaks when everyone wants to see everything. You’re constantly on the go and end up raking in 25,000 steps a day without realising it. But when you’re travelling hard, you also need some rest - travelling alone will give you that opportunity to pace yourself.
Independence, empowerment and confidence
No doubt, travelling solo is a liberating experience. You’ll be able to make your own decisions, create your own schedule and learn so much along the way. You’re entering into the unknown and coming out feeling great. Plus, bragging rights - duh!
New friendships
When I meant travelling solo, that doesn’t mean ignoring everyone along the way. Talk to the locals! Some of my closest friends have come from travelling and yours will too by making life-long memories with them. Now, I’m not saying jump into someone's van for a spontaneous, risky adventure but definitely be open to letting down your guard and seeing the world with new people.
