CIT will not only nurture your creativity, but will give you the essential skills and hands-on experience necessary for a job in fashion. The simulated work studios feature up-to-date digital machinery, specialist textile labs, fashion-specific digital labs and specialised industrial machinery.


Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology

Overview: This program will give you the underpinning skills and technical knowledge to provide creative and technical solutions for interior residential, small commercial and institutional design projects with proficiency and confidence. It will develop your creative design and problem solving skills and enable you to work with a client brief, within project parameters. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between human activity and interaction, spatial design and sustainability.

You will study different techniques of design communication, technical and computer-aided drawing, furnishings, materials and finishes, the psychology of colour and design history.

Program No: C3-BD39

Campus: CIT Reid 

Duration: 3 semesters part-time, 2 evenings a week (approx. 6 hours per week) plus 2 Saturdays per term. Some classes will also be available during the day.

Indicative Cost: $2,603

Likely Job Outcome: Machinist or assistant dressmaker able to produce complex whole garments. Assistant in applied design and production roles within clothing and fashion industry. Clothing retail assistant or in garment alterations.

Additional Information: There will be a materials fee of approximately $290. There will also be additional costs of approximately $100 to $250 for items related to the program - these will vary depending on the quality and quantity of items you select for projects.

Entry Requirements: You must
- have a Year 10 Certificate (or equivalent) OR be Mature Age (turn at least 20 in first year of study)
- AND have workplace written and oral communication skills (early in the program your skills will be checked - if you cannot read and write documents to the level needed, you will be enrolled in additional subjects to help you build the skills needed to successfully complete the program).
