Electrical apprentices can pursue the best of both worlds - learn while you earn as an apprentice with access to all the latest skills, knowledge and training techniques, and the perfect pathway to an in-demand career.

With qualifications available to set you up in careers in domestic wiring, air-conditioning and refrigeration through to large scale commercial installation CIT has an electrical course for you. You could even eventually start your own business.


Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician

Overview: You will be given the required skills and knowledge to work with a variety of electrical equipment and systems in residential, commercial and industrial premises. You will have many 'hands-on' opportunities to practice and develop your skills to industry standard in our custom built electrical workshop to learn and work with electrical equipment associated with sizing and testing of electrical control and power circuits with application to Australian standards.

On successful completion , you will be able to apply for your electrical licence through State and Territory regulators and work as a fully qualified electrician.

Program No: C3-TC31

Campus: CIT Fyshwick 

Duration: 6 semesters part-time (approx. 8 hours per week) then final Verification unit to be completed during 4th and final year of study

Indicative Cost: Apprentice/trainee $1,980

Likely Job Outcome: Work as a qualified Electrician, you may work in specialised areas of the electrical industry which includes domestic, commercial and industrial environments within those installations you will work on communications, controls, general wiring systems and wiring installations.

Additional Information: Industry-standard dress code is required. On successful completion of this qualification, graduates may apply for an Electricians licence (Unrestricted class) in the ACT to work as a fully qualified electrician. This licence is issued by the Construction Occupations Registrar of Access Canberra (ACT Government). CIT does not issue this licence.

Entry Requirements: As you are entering this course as an apprentice under the Australian Apprenticeships arrangements, you must be employed in the electrical contracting industry and you must register with an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) prior to enrolment.

You MUST be supervised by ACT licensed electrician or when working outside the ACT be supervised by a licensed electrician of another licensing jurisdiction.
