CIT's dynamic media and film courses will give you everything you need to enter the fields of screen and media, journalism, film, digital media or professional communications.

You will learn using industry-standard software and equipment in custom-built facilities including a Mac computer lab and TV studio. You will collaborate with students from music, sound, graphic design and many other fields creating complex projects that mirror industry experience and expectations. You learn from highly-respected and experienced teachers with strong networks in the local media and communications industry, and you will enjoy a high degree of practical experience as well as theory.


Certificate III in Screen and Media

Overview: From the Cinema to your smart phone, from your laptop to the TV screen. Learn the keys to success in an industry leading course that is hands on, practical, fun and engaging, Study with a leading team of industry experts. Develop your skills in a team environment and work on classic film scenes, multi-camera shoots and a short drama.

This program will introduce you to media production processes, equipment and technology. You will participate in practical activities that provide insight into all key roles and stages in media production including: camera operation, editing, audio, lighting, script writing and working in production teams.

Campus: CIT Reid 

Duration: 1 semester full-time (approx. 21 hours per week)

Indicative Cost: $1,245

Likely Job Outcome: Archival media technician, Camera/lighting assistant, Community radio program maker/presenter, Editing assistant, Interactive media author assistant, Production assistant. Skilled operator in digital video, Radio and online content creation, Skilled assistant in the film and television production services.

Additional Information: Students will be required to purchase a Media Production crew shirt approximate cost $40. Students will also require an external hard drive and headphones, these can be bought once the course has started if you would like advice on suitable brands. Students will have access to a wide range of CIT equipment for productions.

Entry Requirements: Places in this course are limited. It is recommended that you are able to demonstrate an interest/involvement, skills or experience in the Screen and Media field. To support your success in this program an interview process will determine whether this course is right for you. Upon registering your interest our department will contact you to organise a time.

Further Study: Upon successful completion of the Certificate IV in Screen and Media, students can progress into the Diploma in Screen and Media.
