Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

Overview: This course enables you to perform veterinary nursing duties under minimal supervision in all aspects of veterinary practice. It involves part-time study while working at a vet practice. The responsibilities of veterinary nurses involve providing quality care to a range of sick and injured animals. These include; monitoring anaesthetics, medicating and triaging sick pets, performing minor surgical procedures, undertaking a range of diagnostic tests, dental procedures and performing office duties.

Duration: 18 months (3x semesters) part-time (approx.12 hours per week)

Indicative Cost: $3,123

Likely Job Outcome: Work in veterinary practices and animal hospitals, animal welfare organisations, research and teaching institutions.

Additional Information: You must have access to a veterinary practice (at least 2 days a week) to complete the study and assessment requirements of the program. You will be required to wear suitable protective clothing when dealing with animals and in the laboratory.

Entry Requirements: You must have completed Year 10 or have a Certificate II in Animal Studies or relevant work or other practical experience. You may be asked to attend an interview and/or skills assessment.
