Learn how to care for animals in a scientific, research or teaching organisation. You’ll gain skills in containment and exclusion, anaesthesia, non-surgical procedures, compliance, animal health and wellbeing, enrichment, nutritional requirements, simple breeding procedures and workplace safety.

Employment Outcomes

This is the industry qualification for persons aiming to operate at a senior or managerial level and undertaking animal technology functions within a biomedical research or production environment. Job role titles covered by this qualification may include animal technology manager, faculty manager, animal technologist, animal house manager, supervising animal technician.

Note: Completion of a TAFE SA course does not guarantee an employment outcome. Formal requirements other than educational qualifications (eg licensing, professional registration), may apply to some occupations.

Diploma of Animal Technology (ACM50117)
This qualification provides skills in containment and exclusion, anaesthesia, non-surgical procedures, compliance, animal health and wellbeing, enrichment, nutritional requirements, simple breeding procedures and workplace safety. To complete this qualification you are required to complete all 15 core units and 8 elective units.

Note: Students who successfully complete only one or more units of competency but not the full qualification are eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment.
