In the words of Bob Dylan, "the times they are a-changing". Sure, he wasn't talking about the ginormous strides in technology that we're taking every day, but his point stands. For real though, ChatGPT seemed to come out of nowhere?!?!?
With all this change comes a need for new roles in the workforce. Here are ten careers that are on the rise.
1. Software Developer 💻
Look at it this way. Coders are so sought after that now some European countries have added coding to the primary school curriculum. Yowzas.
Software developers will be one of the most important tech job in the future. Why? Put shortly, they perform maintenance for platforms and build the code that builds businesses and services. Without them, technology would crumble.
2. Virtual Reality Game Developer 👨💻
The latest stats show that the global market size of AR and VR is predicted to reach $296.9 billion in 2024, compared to the $30.7 billion market size that was registered in 2021. That's a pretty cooked incline!
If creating experiences for game consoles, mobile platforms, and PC tickles your fancy and you have a passion for computers and coding, this could be the job for you.
3. Ethical Hacker 👾
The only way that ethical hackers will be layed off is if the world wide web carks it forever. Since that's highly unlikely, the number of ethical hackers is also predicted to rise by 20% by the end of 2023.
Ethical hackers essentially secure and improve the technology of organisations, looking for vulnerabilities that can lead to a security breach. ⚠️ For some reason I picture Wade from Kim Possible when I think of ethical hackers - kick-ass problem solvers.
4. Energy Efficiency Engineer 🛠
Using energy more efficiently is becoming more and more important to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save money and meet growing energy demands.
This job role would have you designing, developing, or evaluating energy-related projects to, you guessed it, reduce energy costs or improve energy efficiency. Your piece in the puzzle is during the designing, building, or remodeling stages of construction.
5. 3D Architect 🏛
If you have a stash of 3D cinema glasses from circa 2009, this career is for you. Lmao I jest... unless...?
In the realms of architecture, engineering and urbanism, 3D models are becoming more and more popular so that customers can literally visualise the finished building or product. There's also a better ability to suss out potential errors that have occurred during the design and drawing process.
6. Geneticist 🧬
If words like genes, heredity, mutation, and genetic variation are music to your ears, get this career on your radar.
Among the many tasks of a geneticist, is the possibility of identifying diseases a person might develop in the future, and act on them before the symptoms appear which is pretty sick... ughhh excuse the pun.
7. User Experience (UX) Analyst 🌐
We've all been on a website that's a bit scat - hard to navigate, not intuitive at all, lagging left, right 'n centre.
The role of a UX Analyst is to make sure you don't get a headache whilst on their website or product. They suss how users experience the website or product and then know exactly how to improve it. With websites up the wazoo these days, it's a no brainer why this job is on the rise.
8. Personal Trainer 🤾♀️
Sure, there are tonnes of Youtube tutorials and apps for fitness, but nothing can really beat a personal trainer to keep you motivated... not to mention, we might all be craving more human connection and less Youtube fitness videos after so many lockdowns...
The need for personal trainers is expected to increase by 15% by 2029, so if you do lift bro, this could be the role for you!
9. Data Analyst 📊
The in-demand data analyst reviews... you guessed it. ✨Data✨. They're analysing, extracting, and presenting data collected from multiple channels. With the info they find, they then give guidance and advice to company leaders, maybe giving solutions to problems or little changes to reach a wider audience...
10. Blockchain Developer 🔗
A little birdy told me that Blockchain technology is predicted to enhance more than 40 million jobs globally by 2030. Yowza! You may have heard of blockchain through its association with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin but that's not its only use - it can help across a tonne of industries.
For example, it's already been used in the automotive industry to record the history of cars to prevent seller fraud. So nobody will be able to lie about the car’s mileage or maintenance when all this info is recorded on the blockchain and is 100% secure.
I think there's a recurring theme here. Technology, technology and oh what's that? Yeah, technology. But lads, jobs like teachers, builders, farmers, lifeguards, dentists... they'll always be needed. Don't stress if you're rubbish with computers. Just ride the wave of all the red hot technological advancements for every career coming.
