Overview
  • Picture this: your uni semester has ended and you've done all the catching up with friends that you haven't been able to do for the last month, but now there is nothing left to do... and I mean literally nothing left to do
  • Let's be real maybe there's no need to picture anything because this your real life is being described right now 🫣
  • So to help make it through these hols here are the 10 things to try to keep yourself busy

Feeling like there's nothing to do? It can be tricky when the days of boredom appear, particularly when you've been super busy for weeks or months at a time and all of a sudden there is nothing.

We've accumulated your unequivocal guide to all the things you could try doing to combat your boredom.

1. Do some spring cleaning

Not only is it the best way to clear your head, but it is also nice to clean up your place when you have the time to do so. When you’re busy it can be easy to let things go awry.

This may seem like the absolute last thing you want to be doing when you're bored but that's also why it's the perfect time to do it.

How often are you telling yourself, "I'll pick those clothes up when I'm not busy" or "I have too much on my mind to vacuum my room"?

With time on your hands, pop on a playlist and get to it. You'll be busy for hours and you'll have a clean space as a bonus.

2. Pick up that book!

Now I’m not judging, just describing from experience, but it is seriously time to pick up that book!

You know the one. It’s probably been sitting on your bookshelf for at least a year. Maybe you promised someone you’d read it, or you spent good money on it, either way, it is time to pick it up.

If you’re finding it difficult to get into you could try reading every second page.

3. Learn a new language

I mean why not! Given you've now done your spring cleaning and read that one book you've been meaning to for months, learning a language will be a walk in the park.

There are heaps of apps out there to help you do it too. From Duolingo to Babbel, I've even heard one of the best ways to learn is by listening to a podcast.

This is a great thing to keep you busy as you can learn as much as you want to without the pressures of exams being your motivation. And if you keep it up you have just another excuse to go on a holiday.

4. Learn how to do a cartwheel

Learning to cartwheel is definitely a rite of passage for a young kid. Unfortunately, some may have missed out on the opportunity to learn when they were little, so are stuck with showing off your sick bunny hop tumbling skills.

This is your chance to learn or to perfect your cartwheel. Just make sure you find a soft wide open space to do it - and don’t forget to stretch!

5. Find a new bushwalk

I personally love finding new hidden areas in nature to go walking in. When you’re feeling a little lost it can be refreshing to get back into nature and enjoy the present moment.

6. Go to Kmart and find a new art project

From paint-by-numbers to puzzles, to cross-stitching, there is always something to find. They’re also usually very realistically sized which helps in not feeling like you’re about to take on a massive task.

7. Press some flowers

It may not have been something you’ve done since you were a kid, but you can definitely make a day of it.

You can start by going for a walk around your local area and pick some flowers or leaves that you find on your way. So when you come back you have a little collection of the different flowers and other plants that make up your home.

8. Create a photo journal

While you have some time on your hands, this is the best opportunity to print out some of the memories you’ve made over the past few months. Taking photos is so easy these days that it can be easy to forget that photos are taken to be looked back upon.

In creating collections of your photos you have a way to look back on something for yourself or further down the line for others you meet along the way.

Even better you can add the flowers you’ve already pressed into your photo collection to have a collection of memories made up of both photos and pieces you’ve collected.

Make sure you also add in some descriptions with those photos to keep those great memories attached to them.

9. Go to a dance class

While we’re re-exploring the things we loved as a kid, why not try a dance class? It can be a great way to explore exercising in a different way while also finding a new way to express yourself. And who knows, maybe it’ll become your new passion.

10. Have a picnic

Picnics are perfect for when you want to eat out but you don’t want to pay for expensive meals at a restaurant.

You can choose what you want to eat. You can go to the beach, or the park, or sit in your backyard or living room.

Finding something to do when you're bored can be difficult, but also incredibly painful.

Getting out there and getting stuck into an activity or project can be one of the best ways to find something to do.

So get out there and good luck!
