31 Dec 2019

I hate it when people ask me what I’m doing next year. Come on guys, I don’t have 2020 vision… Ha..Ha..Ha..Ha...

Plot twist, I actually do have 2020 vision, and I know that 2020 is gonna be an absolute cracker. Here is why.

1. It’s a leap year

For all of you born on the 29th of February, you finally get a proper birthday so you better have a gnarly celebration!

For the rest of us, we get an extra 24 hours this year. Do you know how many things can be accomplished in 24 hours? You could start learning a new instrument or try surfing. You could read a whole book or learn the alphabet in French. The world is your oyster!

2. Technology

NASA reports that in 2020, Japan will be well on its way in finishing its $2.2 billion project to build a place on the moon for robots. Sorry…what? NASA will also launch its Mars Exploration program in 2020. Who knows, we might find some extra-terrestrial beings and my dreams of being mates with ET will finally come into fruition.

Now, I'm not psychic. I would love to predict that we'll all be riding hoverboards and watching Jaws 19. But, what I do know is that technology expands every year and 2020 will surely be no exception. Let's hope that these developments in technology are used for happiness, wellbeing and changing the world, one global issue at a time.

3. Environment

Speaking of global issues, there's no denying now that our environment is in dire straits. More and more people are finally aware of it and are using their voices to make a change.

Electric cars that use zero emissions are on the rise, especially in Europe. Liberia will be the first country in the world to stop cutting down trees in 2020 and let's hope more and more countries follow suit.

People are already uniting now to help the environment and more and more people are doing their part. Let's all hope we can give a big ol' hug to mother nature in 2020.

4. Festivals

Oh man are there some bangin' festivals on the horizon. Splendour in the Grass is celebrating its 20th birthday so it’s bound to be a hoot and a half! Patti Smith is playing at Bluesfest, The 1975 and King Gizz are playing at St. Jerome’s Laneway. My fave festy's in 2019 were Bad Friday, Groovin’ the Moo and This That. I’m keen as a bean for them to come back again in 2020.

5. It’s a new decade

Forget New Year's resolutions, it's time for some new decade resolutions. What are your goals for the decade? Big question right? But eventually you might want to move to Greece or have your own business. Dream big people!

Are you going to start being more environmentally conscious by having meatless Mondays or shopping sustainably? Are you going to read a book a week? Are you going to do some volunteering for a cause you're passionate about? Whatever your goals, don't just aim for a year, aim for the decade! Let's change the world, spread some good vibes and have a cracker 2020.
