5 Things You Can Study From Home
Well, now that we’re all gonna be spending a bit more time inside than we’d usually like, it’s kinda the perfect time to start doing some exploring.
Not the get-lost-in-a-forest-and-climb-a-tree-to-see-what’s-around-the-corner type of exploring you’re used to thinking of, but the kind of exploring you can do from the comfort of your own bed.
Exploring your interests.
Those things that kind of catch your interest and find you daydreaming about what life would be like if you could make that thing a career.
Well, now’s your chance to get a taste for them. Online courses are everywhere and super diverse. It’s astonishing what you can achieve and learn without ever meeting a teacher in person. Here are some of our faves:
Forensics
If you wanna fill your spare time with something completely unique, something that none of your mates are doing – then forensics is definitely the go (shout out to those of you who are consumed by true crime Netflix series and YouTube videos).
Imagine coming out of isolation and telling your mates you spent the time gaining a Diploma of Electronic Forensics. Well, The Australian Fraud and Anti-Corruption Academy (AFCA) are able to offer you exactly that (as well as a Cert IV, and more).
This course can be done completely online and will get you fully trained up in digital, audio-visual and biometrics forensics. Safe to say you’ll never be bored when you’re studying forensics - and the icing on the cake? It’s that this single qualification can lead you to a bunch of different roles in rewarding careers.
AFCA also allows you to study at your own pace, meaning you can study in between Netflix sessions and Facetime calls with ya mates. They also have Facebook groups for each of the courses, meaning you can make mates doing the same course and give each other a hand when you get stuck. Although, when ya do this course you also get a personal tutor, so you probs won’t find yourself getting stuck too often! Keen to find out how to get started? Head here.
Retail
When all this iso madness is over, you can be certain that people will be shopping like never before. And shopkeepers will be looking for new employees like never before. And people will be looking for retail jobs (like when? Oh yeah, never before).
If ya wanna stand out from the pack, then having some formal qualifications in retail is one of the best ways to improve your chances of landing the gig. VERTO have a Certificate III in Retail that will make you an absolute weapon in the world of retail.
Business
Consider yourself a bit of an entrepreneur and want to get a taste for the business life, but aren’t too sure exactly what you want to do? Then La Trobe University’s got ya covered.
Their Bachelor of Applied Business equips you with a bunch of universal skills that can be applied to a huge range of roles and careers. When it comes to emerging from isolation with skills that’ll get you employed, then this course is the go. And if you’re loving the marketing or management side of what you’re learning, then you can choose to complete one of them as an optional Major.
Adult Education
So, maybe you’re already a weapon at something. Maybe, you reckon people could be paying you to be teaching them throughout their isolation hours. If so, that’s sick! Go for it.
However, this one-year, full-time Diploma of Adult Education with TAFE NSW will show ya how to do it properly. From designing engaging assessment programs to the skills needed to organise, implement and evaluate the training you deliver, you’ll graduate fully qualified to work as a trainer or assessor in your chosen discipline.
Nutrition
Mental health is as important as ever right now (if not more so), and one of the biggest factors in keeping a healthy mind is keeping a healthy body! Nutrition encompasses everything from human anatomy, physiology and chemistry, as well as how they relate to human nutrition, digestion and metabolism.
With a Diploma of Nutrition (courtesy of Torrens University Australia) under your belt, you open the door for a heap of potential careers, such as nutrition and health science, and nutritional solutions in human development, health and fitness.
Who said being isolated had to be a bore? Spend the time productively, grow your skills base, and you’ll emerge on the other side with the ability to chase whatever life you want!
