Overview
  • International travel is a lot closer than we think with inbound and outbound flights starting up as early as November 1 (tropical and white Christmas destinations)
  • Fully vaccinated Australian citizens and parents of residents will be able to fly into Sydney without quarantining
  • Start making plans and live your best life with a little more certainty but for the love of God, investigate into travel insurance

Considering where all of Australia were a few months ago, states and territories are slowly but surely opening up. NSW for example are doing pretty well hitting the 80% double vax mark over the weekend. They've reunited with family and friends, pumped some iron at the gyms, done the Bondi to Coogee walk at every moment possible and celebrated in the only way they know: at the pub with a few beveraginos. Who said Aussie’s aren’t cultured?

We love a Bunnings snag on the weekends but we’re ready to rock our illegitimate Bintang singlets, feast on dodgy airplane food and roll our eyes at mid-flight crying babies as soon as we can - and international travel is a lot closer than we think.

If you’re jabbed and looking at latching onto the first flight out of here then you’ll be looking at November 1 for London and Los Angeles. After living your best life overseas, upon arrival back into the country, you’ll just need a negative test result - no need for hotel quarantine! Qantas are considering bringing forward the resumption of flights from other countries but at the moment, that’s slated for December.

From December 18, international travel to and from Singapore, Tokyo, Fiji and Vancouver have been given the green light. Whether you’re after a tropical getaway or a white Christmas - you can pick from the best of both worlds.

Coming up to the summer hols, we’re very much feeling like this towards Bali rn:

Unfortunately for us, we’re not among the handful of countries allowed to fly into Bali. Our Kiwi neighbours New Zealand have been allowed in as of last week, so I guess we’ll live through them but they will still be subject to mandatory hotel quarantine. Plus, flights are a pretty penny right now.

As Australia is the biggest driver in tourism for Bali's economy, they are in talks of reopening to us sooner than expected. Keep an eye out for those flights - we’ll be on the Bali swing, having brunch at the Kynd Community and living our best lives before we know it.

From November 1, fully vaccinated Australian citizens and parents of residents will be able to visit Sydney without quarantining. With the mandatory $3,000+ hotel quarantine being scrapped and 45,000 people wanting to get back into Australia, this is a big and exciting win for all our overseas relos.

The amount of documentation stuffed in your passport wallet will be a little lighter than you think with the “International Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate” (digital or printed) becoming available from Tuesday October 18 - bringing us closer to safe and easier overseas travel.

Although some restrictions are still in place, these updates are getting us all geed up and is one step closer to getting us TF out of here. My advice: wait for the prices to drop and don’t be paying an arm and a leg just to get a plane seat. From someone who’s trip of a lifetime got cancelled last year, my travel itch is back and ready to go. 19 months is long enough and we’re overdue - bring on travel insurance and overseas treks!
