A Broke Girl's Guide To Sport And Fitness On A Budget
Overview
From doing free gym trials to using the great outdoors, here are creative ways you can stay fit without breaking the bank. 🥰
An empty wallet doesn't mean you can't stay active. With a little creativity and resourcefulness, you can still get 🎵 physical, physical 🎵 without breaking the bank.
Here's how to be Sporty Spice on a budget.
Suss out options in your local community 🌈
There's a good chance that your local community has something free going on. One of my personal faves is parkrun - a 5km fun run/walk that happens every Saturday morning in 400+ locations around Aus. It's totally free and a good opp to connect with people from your hood.
You can also use Facebook to search for local community sports groups like rockclimbing or surfing. They're often willing to take in beginners and show you the ropes. Maybe even loan you some equipment too!
Use what you have 🚲
Forget buying exxy gear or equipment like weights or a boxing bag. Use what you already have at home, whether that's a bike, some old dumbells that have seen better days, or a skipping rope. You can always borrow things from mates as well.
If you start getting serious, you can always upgrade your equipment later on!
Use the great outdoors 🍄
Why not go for a run? All you need are some joggers and some terrain and boom, your heart is pumping and you're improving your fitness. Easy!
What about a hike? Check out what National Parks are near you, gather the troops (ie. mates), pack some Nature Valley bars and get to the top of that mountain!
What about a cycle? Spin those pedals and take in the great outdoors. No gym membership needed.
Do free trials 🏋️
This one's a little cheeky but life's short baby. Capitalise on gym free trials. I've tried barre, pilates, spin, boxing, cardio, HIIT and yoga and guess what. I haven't paid a cent.
Use free apps or YouTube tutorials ▶️
Instead of paying the price of Jesus' tears for a gym membership or exxy workout classes, use free workout apps or YouTube tutorials!!
There are plenty of free options available for alllll types of workouts that require little to no equipment. You can also find tutorials on how to use household items for strength training exercises. This way, you can keep your workouts interesting and effective without spending any dosh.
Organise a game with your friends 👬
Instead of paying to join a sports league, gather your mates and organise a game together on the weekends. You can play basketball at a local park or kick around a soccer ball in the backyard. It's a perf way to stay active, have fun, and socialise with your friends - and it's free!
Being broke doesn't have to mean missing out on the fun of sports!! Get creative with it! Thinking outside the box is more fun than an expensive gym membership anyways. 😉
