At Year13, we talk a lot about chasing your passion. And to be honest, it can be quite the task if you’re still in high school.

You not only have to juggle homework, assessments, exams, but maintain a social life, working commitments and your sanity. Honestly, I got exhausted writing that out.

But your passion is what should come first. Why? Well, your passion will put you on a path towards a career you can see doing for the rest of your life. But alas, that path can be muddled when you reach the end of high school because you’ve not had the opportunity to taste your passion.

Well, our mates at The School of the New York Times are serving up more than a taste if you’re still in high school.

If you’re passionate and curious about journalism, media, politics, technology, arts, culture, sports, business and fashion, there’s no better place to satisfy your taste than taking a bite out of what The Big Apple has to offer – online, that is.

The School of the New York Times

Ah, New York. The concrete jungle where dreams are made of. It’s the city that has it all – people from all over the world calling it home, great food, amazing culture, insane fashion. It’s probably one of the first cities you think of when you dream about moving overseas to pursue your career as a lifestyle blogger. Just me? Thought so.

Jokes aside, The School of the New York Times offer a bunch of different courses ranging from one to eight weeks and are all taught by experts in New York. Who wouldn’t want to learn about journalism than from an expert journalist a part of The New York Times publication?

For those still in high school, you’ll want to jump on their Summer Academy. These 2-4 week courses are designed for high school students who are passionate about learning how to apply what they learn to the real world. From creative writing to DIY filmmaking and Photojournalism, there’s a bunch of courses on offer!

Sotheby’s Institute of Art

Lifestyle, culture and arts are three words that come to mind when I think of New York. From the iconic Museum of Modern Art to Broadway – the city that never sleeps has it all. And naturally, creatives flock to NYC to chase their passion of creating. So, it’s safe to say the creatives in NYC are the best in the biz. Luckily for you, you can find the experts at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

If you consider yourself more of a creative, the courses offered by the Sotheby’s Institute of Art are the ultimate way to learn how to harness your creative abilities and develop a deep understanding of today’s art world. If you’re aged between 16 and 18, they have a Pre-College Summer Institute to satisfy your curiosity in the art industry. You’ll get to know what goes on behind the scenes of world-class museums, galleries, auction houses, artists’ studios and more.

The best part about these options is that you can do this in the comfort of your own bedroom too, as all of your classes and workshops will be online with your teacher set up in the hustle and bustle of NYC.

I’m sure you’ll feel like a New Yorker in no time when you can hear the never-ending beeping of taxi drivers. To fuel your New York attraction, these courses are some of the best ways to live your life to its fullest whilst exploring your passions and furthering your career options all the while you’re still in school.
