There’s always one person in every friendship group who’s the organiser. Easily recognisable by their type-A personality, impeccable creativity and hyper-organisational skills - these friends buy all the concert tickets, make the reservations and plan everything down to the T.

If this is you, or if you’ve been to a party and thought you could throw a better one yourself, then maybe you should consider a career in events.

You’ll throw and attend some awesome parties

Shindig, soiree, gatho…. whatever you want to call it, a career in events isn’t for a party pooper. As an event manager, you could be planning and attending a different party every weekend.

From small birthday gatherings, conferences, weddings or huge VIP events - a day in the life of an event manager is never dull, that’s for sure!

You’ll meet lots of people

I hope you’re good at remembering names because you’re going to meet a lot of people.

A career in events is perfect for a social butterfly. You’ll do a lot of mingling and meet people from a vast number of backgrounds. Play your cards right and you might even rub shoulders with some celebrities!

You could work at the biggest events in the world

From the Olympics, the Grammys, Tour de France, and Coachella to things a little more local like Vivid, Mardi Gras or Splendour in the Grass… all of these events have someone behind the scenes pulling all the strings.

Whether it be major sporting events, art, film or organising the dream lineup to a festival, it’s a great way to get involved in all the things you love.

Heck, they even need someone to organise the cheese-rolling festival if you’re keen!

Variety is the spice of life

Whether you’re a bit of a dictator when it comes to Christmas decorations or if you’re a gun at cheese spreads, there’s a huge variety of events that are in need of organising.

No two days are the same in event management, and you can do whatever your heart desires, anywhere in the world. From weddings and christenings, graduations and corporate events to fundraisers and even brunches - the choice is yours!

You don’t need a uni degree

Reckon you’re keen? Well some great news is you don’t need to waste your time and money on a degree to kickstart your career in events. A diploma is all you need!

The College of Event Management even offers a short course so you can dip your toe into the industry instead of diving in head-first. The Event Foundation short course is a perfect taste tester, but if you are ready to dive right in, early applications for the diploma are now open.
